It’s not Seibold’s fault

That feeling when your team thinks that blowing an 18 point lead is a step in the right direction.

Milford has taken up his player option and Bird is likely to take up his, neither of their salaries will be coming off the books in 2021 unless they're released early.

Deardon is already signed for 2021, which means we need to re-sign him for 2022 which is when both Milford & Birds contracts are up.

Yeah but we will also have to convince him to wait until then before he will get a crack at nrl and that could be a fairly hard sell.

Dearden, Milf and Bird all come off contract at the same time... end of 2021

Yep.....that's what I was trying to say, I just did it poorly.

My point being if we want to keep Deardon badly enough then we will be in a position to do so, but we need to get him some more time on the field.

You would imagine the coach is letting him know that he is pencilled in for the halves.

Seibold rates him very highly and I see him looking at a Croft + Dearden pairing for the long term... unless Milf absolutely brains it.

I believe it was hoped that he could play ISC all year this year to serve as an apprenticeship... and there is no need to throw him into the fire when we have Milf and Croft available whilst he gets some experience against men. Covid has fucked that plan... not unlike our season it seems.

Every chance it's either his manager has gone to Hooper telling him that every man and his dog is after him or Hooper has taken a look at the contracts and picked a few names out of the hat to write up a story... either way his manager is using Hooper as a shiny bald puppet.

Given Dearden is effectively available as of November 1 this year... his manager should be asking around to get an idea of market value before looking to extend his contract.

Quality stuff there on the Broncos site. Judging by this I'd say recruitment in the media department is obviously handled by the same people who manage our on field recruitment.

Probably should have read 'angry' …… that we have defensively turned into the laughing stock of the NRL.

Trad was a victim of redundancy and COVID.

No way that debacle with the media after Easts game happens if he's there or sending pre-arranged texts to media.

Honestly we have a serious crossroad end of this season RE Deardon V Milf. I have faith in our hooker stocks, so for me this is sorted and can be worked on and improved. Paix has showed enough so far for me to be comfortable with him as a backup or future. Turps has the ability of what we need, hes learning and improving IMO and can be something solid reliable and get the job done. The rest will come down to coaching.

Milf probably realistically has about 4-5 rounds left to show what he needs to - to actually retain his spot in the future. From there its like an old girlfriend, need to rip the bandaid off and make a clear cut call. He will get a released early easily if they pick Deardon. Milfs value has also taken a serious hit, hes unfortunately proven he cant get himself into a game as a half, and as a fullback is not good enough unless for a lower tier team struggling. Hes in some future trouble.

This of course all depends on head office politics. The focus at HQ needs to shift from big names, back to reliable and "in the trenches" style. I do worry we have banked on stacking a superstar squad vs a real world squad. Often the get down and dirty gritty players are what turns a game. Haas and lodge have done an exceptional job so far considering the team morale on field. Boyd will also be flushed end of year, so this will be a positive - but for me Milf and Boyd gone.

Hard to argue too much with any of that. Milf was out of time 2 weeks ago.

Is that temporary or permanent? I can think of a dozen people I’d let go before him.

Sorry, but unless you have an elite dummy Half, you better have absolutely elite players in every other position like the Roosters, because other than that you're basically an also ran in the modern NRL.

I keep hoping the Roosters get done for salary cap rorts...
