Yeah, just like the Warriors... think about it!
They have zero direction, a terrible culture, an awful coach, a rubbish city, and shit cars. I'd play like shit there too.
Yeah, just like the Warriors... think about it!
Overachieved by finishing third and making the prelim. That has glossed over what has otherwise been a pretty meh season. It doesn't really feel that much different to last year, finishing 5th then bowing out with a whimper. The heartbreak of 2015 does seem to have really taken it out of our squad in terms of desire. History won't do Hunt any favors amongst Brisbane fans. He cost us a premiership, failed to deliver one in redemption and leaves the club for the payday leaving behind a mentally weakened team. CYA.
Disappointed in Milf. Yes he is injured, and I am giving him the benefit of the doubt in that regard, but considering his value and capabilities he is way under where he should be. He really does need a game manager next to him, but is Taylor really that person? We know Nikorima isn't, for all his talent. Troubling times in our halves ahead it seems.
Which brings me to our pack. The glory days of Webby and Civo seem so long ago now. Our pack has been undersized and outmuscled for way too long. McGuire is a freak, but he can't do it all on his own. Pangai Jr and Joe O are coming along really nicely but they aren't quite where we want them just yet. Let's hope they continue to improve because we need them to be quality going forward and frankly in a hurry.
Boyd as Captain; I really don't know about this. Everyone says he is a changed man after making his demons public, but is that really the case? I watch his body language on field, especially when we're under the pump and it far from screams leadership to me. More like that friend everyone had on the school oval who gets the shits and sulks when the team he was randomly put with can't perform. The fact that Bennett is clearly coddling him doesn't help the situation either. What I wouldn't give to be a confidant of Bennett's to try and get inside his head on this one.
Overall, I went into the season with mild optimism and walk out with something close to mild skepticism. We haven't recruited all that well, Bird doesn't seem like the all providing Sage that Cronulla like to paint him as, the Lodge situation is still up in the air (the NRL won't do us any favors, despite us being about 50% of the reason they're managing to stay afloat at all), and we have players on a big chunk of cap who aren't living up to it at this time. The Henjak/Griffin era has truly left our club in a sorry state. Letting Bennett walk in the first place has ultimately become a disastrous decision that has weakened the clubs position in the comp.
Before Bennett left, we missed out on a 2nd premiership in 2 years by one massive Sims **** up and nothing more. Who would be saying our dynasty is over now if that had happened?
5/10 season. Save us, Kevvie.
Haven't we moved on from the hunt bashing? Cost us a comp ..c'mon. The inconsistent beggar tried harder than anyone and looking at this year in isolation could argue we are paying the wrong half the big bucks.
Reckon he'll do well there. Time will tell if he's worth it. He's in the DCE band of 2nd stringers and he's getting a mil a year. He'll become one of the highest earning players in the game at Merge. Even looking at this year in isolation, do you really think he deserves it? Milford has a much bigger upside and is younger with less first grade experience.
Milf was just a scattery ball runner this year and I can't think of a single game he gave us decent attacking shape. With you on that. Notwithstanding injury he was terrible IMO. I hope your right on the upside
According to new statistics released by Roy Morgan Research Centre, the Brisbane Broncos are the most supported team in the NRL with over 1 million supporters in Australia.
Surprisingly, despite being based in the heart of 'AFL Country' the Melbourne Storm take out second place with 828,000 supporters.
The North Queensland Cowboys round out the podium with 608,000 supporters nation wide.
The most supported Sydney-based team is the Parramatta Eels who sit fourth on the overall table with almost half a million less supporters than the first-placed Broncos.
Here's the full list:
Gary Morgan, Executive Chairman, Roy Morgan Research, says:
“The Brisbane Broncos with 1.02 million supporters are again Australia’s most widely supported NRL club – a position the Broncos have held unchallenged since the NRL commenced operations in 1998 following the Super League split.
“The Broncos have over twice as many supporters as any Sydney-based NRL club including long-suffering Parramatta Eels supporters on top in the Sydney market with 457,000 supporters ahead of two merged clubs – the St. George Illawarra Dragons on 441,000 supporters and the Wests Tigers with 403,000 supporters.
“The strong support for the Broncos is evident when one considers the home attendances for NRL clubs. The Broncos are the only NRL club to average home attendances of over 30,000 spectators.
“Broncos Preliminary Final opponents, the Melbourne Storm, grab second place on the Roy Morgan 2017 NRL supporter ladder with 828,000 supporters. The Storm’s home attendances are also second only to the Broncos. Queensland rivals the North Queensland Cowboys with 608,000 supporters also have the league’s third best home attendance behind the Broncos and Storm.”
The broncos knew hunt was off contract. The Broncos season was handed a death sentence as soon as Hunt signed with St George Illawarra. Whatever stability the Broncos had in the spine was completely thrown into question and suddenly one of the Broncos' biggest advantage over the rest of the competition was compromised.
In fact, the whole free-agency system in the NRL is a joke. The Broncos were doing all they could to develop Herman Ese'ese into their next 60 minute forward and that was all squandered when Newcastle came along with a big money offer the Broncos couldn't hope to match.
So instead of playing for 2017, there were times where it was clear the club was more worried about 2018 and it affected a lot of players. Adam Blair was one of the Broncos best players over the past two seasons and his ability to play the link role gave the Broncos a tremendous advantage. However, as soon as he was informed he was moving on, Blair went back into auto-pilot and couldn't commit himself like he once did. That pass in the Round 25 game was a telltale moment.
Fans can point fingers and come up with all sorts of speculation but Wayne gave everybody the answer last night. Through out the entire year, the team-list read like a game of musical chairs which you can't do, especially not in the lead up to the finals.
In spite of this, there was still the trademark Broncos culture on show. There were a few games where they should have lost it, but through sheer determination and belief they managed to finish over the top of the other side and take it. I was never happy with the style of play, but the attitude was usually top notch.
The Broncos '17 side was at a cross-roads with a lot of players not on the same page. Bold decisions were made and while the future appears unclear, I've got faith we've got the right people involved to win that elusive premiership.
Is it really a milford type players role to give you shape? He can’t give us shape if we’re not being coached it.
You wont do too bad.In 2015, we won 5 from 9 games against top four sides. In 2016, 3 from 7. This year, 1 from 8.
Sure, we finished higher this season than the previous season but we're still going backwards and going back to the days where we can't compete against the top teams.
We better have some good signings up our sleeves in the coming months because with the amount of player turnover this year which will take it's toll eventually if we don't start bringing in some more players to help cover those losses and improve our depth.
If we don't do that, it's going to be a very long and painful 2018 season.
That is something every club has and loses or wins on.
