It would make no sense for us to go out and buy him as a second rower when we already have Glenn, Gillett and Thaiday, with Su'A and Oates waiting for a shot once Thaiday retires.
Glenn was benched to start the year, Sammy close to retirement, Gillett's rookie years were on the left where he killed it, Oates currently killing it on the wing.

Su'a is the only other legitimate long term option there and he's still a few years off

FWIW I see TPJ as a lock/middle

Also if reports are try we bought him as a lock. The same position Wayne told McGuire was his and to start preparing for last year

I would prefer someone like Su'A played in the second row over Bird. Bird in the centres with someone else in the second row makes us a stronger overall team.

I just can't see us playing Bird at center long term. We wouldn't be paying him big money if he wasn't going to get his hands on the ball plenty.

You mean the same money gagai is about to get to play center , and the same dugan got offered from the dragons to play center . And hasn't been said he has no issue playing center as long as he gets more ball.

We've already got an absolute gun right centre in Roberts and while one of them can be moved to the left their play style isn't suited to it.

Besides haven't you heard GI has been sourcing advice from Bennet and his wife has moved back to Brisbane to be closer to family.... Just need the Danny o'tool tick of approval and she's as good as done

Bird can play left centre no problem.

Yep, exactly the same. But they dont have Bennett in charge, and i dont think he will be forking out big money for a center tbh. I'm pretty certain we will see Bird 5/8 or lock for the majority of the time. I'm also pretty sure Bennett is going to be switching our setup slightly in the future and we will be playing with a ball playing lock.

The stupidity of forcing a player out of their natural game and in to a different position purely because that spot generally demands more money.

He'd only be under utilized at centre if he wasn't given enough ball...

Having Bird and Roberts on either side would be huge.

Can't remember who it was on one of the talk shows, but I think they made a fair point about this. They were talking about Hayne costing 1.2mill to play in centres, but he made the point that thats not necessarily a problem, its more about impact and balance in the team overall rather than what position you play, particularly if you have a cheaper option taking up a 'traditionally' more expensive spine position - in Titans situation they have T roberts playing fullback relatively cheaply. At the moment until something changes we have a couple of cheap spineys in Nik and McCullough. I guess the point is maybe you need to look at the quality of the player and what they bring overall, rather than fixing on thats too much to pay for a centre. Would it be too much if they became competition leading try scorer for example?

Exactly right. The same gripe I have with Oates wanting to play in the back row because it means he'll be worth more.

Or people bitching about paying Folau $400k at the time. Or Bird $700k at centre.
