I can’t see how Seibs lied. I honestly believe that if Jimmy had copped the demotion on the chin and improved his attitude Seibs would have picked him to play. He’s said repeatedly that he rewards effort. Jimmy was the one that got the sooks, and Wayne was the one that pounced.

I think Seibs would be just as happy to have had Jimmy play but realised he was never going to buy into the system and let him go when asked. He’s not the one who looks bad in this situation IMO. Personally I’m glad we have a coach who is trying to build a team of guys who want to play for us and don’t just get to chip in when they feel like it.

The media in all forms are terrible. That wasn't Wayne training us to not trust them, but simply years of bullshit on their behalf. The media are still shitting on the club without Bennett. Most of it has not been right, these blokes do guess and make things up. There's a guy on Twitter now keeping count of all the news these guys make up and not one of them is close to being at 50%. Bennett lied, sure. But what you just wrote is some of the biggest bullshit I've read in a while.

Thats a different interpretation, let me summarize.

Richo is a good operator, he normally has little tolerance for players like Roberts.
Richo would rather spend 800k on a top level forward - eg TPJ rather than 500k on hit and miss Roberts.
Souths knew their cap position weeks ago from the NRL with the money from GI.
Richo and WB would have been holding out hoping that they could get partial salary from Broncos.

It went on for too long, according to reports Roberts played average in the ISC match.
Roberts continuing to play ISC with his attitude (assuming he had decided he didnt want to play Broncs anymore), would have damaged his career prospects, so Souths were forced to make the move. IF WB didnt give a ****, he would have had Roberts on the books weeks ago.

The significant difference is that Seibs/Broncs stayed firm and dropped him to ISC.

Souths were aware of how much money they had to spend weeks ago from the NRL, it was genuinely put on cold water at first by Souths and went dead quiet. The move to stay firm and keep Roberts dropped was a master stroke. Out played Wayne and out played Souths.

I think that's rubbish mate tbh. Nobody has outplayed anyone. It's just standard business for any clubs negotiating deals for under contract players. Pretty much everyone has got what they wanted. Seibold clearly didn't take to Roberts, and the feeling was probably mutual. Wayne was happy to take him. Of course they can talk to whoever they like, they can't tap them up though. But eveyone knows it goes on. If a player wants out, they have to ask for a release.

No you don't, because that rule does not exist.

Edit: Of course, if they want a player before their contract expires, it's a different matter.

For example, the grubby chooks could be having legal talks with Payne Haas now about a contract from 2025 onwards. They just would not be able to register it until the 1st of November 2024.
Under the latest amendment, they also would have to send the NRL any contract offers presented to the player.

Even though everyone knows tapping up goes on, They had to ask to be released to talk to other clubs because they were under contract with Brisbane. The player had to instigate the move. All other clubs can do is ask players if they have an interest, they can't talk money until they get permission.
