Getting troppo while you're a recovering alcoholic on the injured list is a lot worse.
Let's take footy out of it for a second ...

If I got "troppo" at a private residence my boss wouldn't give 2 shits about it ...

However, if I refused to co-operate with my companies HR on an investigation, then I would 1000% be disciplined maybe even terminated (depending on the severity of the investigation)

If you were a recovering alco and professional sports person who was just injured, I dare sway you would be counting yourself lucky if you had a job after this.

Yeah wasn't he meant to be on his last chance or something as far as the drinking to excess goes? He pulled a woman's hair or something.

Would have been interesting to see the punishment handed to James if we were 3/4 or 4/4.
In my opinion it would have been at least a 2wk suspension + some fine (probably around 5k) however this just goes to show that the club needs all hands on deck at the moment. I do recall hearing something a few years back that he was on his last chance with the club.
Yes he didn’t hurt anyone, however it’s not a good look for a club struggling, and more importantly, it’s not good for James and his health given his past with alcohol.
Hopefully he gets the help he needs and the club support him through it.

It's likely that they let him off because he had the brains to stay home / at a mates place.

The GC hair pull thing was apparently the story of someone who didn't actually see it themselves. So they just pulled a Shaggy and said 'it wasn't me'. From my hazy memory.

Nah bro. I gotta disagree with you on this one. Speaking from experience as a known alco... it's impossible to stop a drinker drinking from the outside. The only person able to stop a drinker from drinking is the drinker.

Full stop.

This can't be put on his mates. It's Jimmys cross to bear.

His mates 'were' there for him... he needed help, they got him home.
Done.
You and @mrslong are absolutely right. I have a dead Father in Law to prove it as well.

However, going back to @Nashy 's point, this is a guy who was supposedly clean and has been for a while. A good mate would at the very least try to stop him from starting and ideally try to avoid him getting the temptation and opportunity to act upon that temptation.

Of course I don't know what exactly happened. They could have tried to stop him and failed, or they could have been dickheads who encouraged him with "meh, it's only one drink, you'll be right", but at least it happened in a sheltered private environment.

FWIW, I have no problem with the photo being taken and I would probably have done that too, but only to show him what he's doing to himself, never for public consumption, even if whomever did it, is trying it as a shock treatment wake-up call.

My question would be(dunno how this works) is .... Was Jet on the rehab list at the time of this happening? It apparently was the night after the Dragons game. Maybe he thought he would play the next next week. And yes I understand he is or should be on an alcohol ban.

It's a tough one.

Not being at a pub or a night club is about the only thing he got right.

From one angle, it's a storm in a teacup but it's still a piss poor look from him and the club.

Broadly speaking is it even in the top 100?

Who is the reigning champion? Craig Gower?

I've been reading this book about player misbehaviour. Check out what he pulled one night:

Gower made headlines for days when he went to a Sunshine Coast golf resort prior to his wedding in early 2006. While there, he groped the 17-year-old daughter of league legend Wayne Pearce, became involved in an altercation with Pearce's son, stripped nude, hijacked a golf buggy, put a butter knife to the throat of a journalist and otherwise offended a few guests.

Incredibly, he seethed for months when they took the captaincy off him.

He protested his punishment to the president of the club, Barry Walsh, saying "You'd think I'd killed someone."

I know, Craig. Storm in a teacup. My heart bleeds.

Fun Fact: he also vomitted over Mitchell Pearce by the way. Poor Mitch lol

Really? Unbelievable. The book I'm reading didn't mention that.

The AFL are up to their eyeballs in it as well.

There was an unbelievable story about Ben Cousins and the lengths he went to in order to avoid a random breath test.

Probably not the thread for it but if I get time I'll type it up and share it somewhere.

Gower must have been on quite the bender hey lol. Mitch went over to him when his sister was being harassed and after all the excitement, Gower let him have it with the puke. Benny Cousins dived into the Swan River in Perth to swim away from the police while leaving his girlfriend sitting in the car completely shocked at what she had just witnessed hah. Footy players, I tell ya, they are a different species.

Ben cousins once turned up to a hair follicle drug test with every single surface of his body clean- shaved

The best RBT story is still Liam Knight spraying Aerogard in his mouth

I recall a good few years back one of the Broncos best ever halves and one of our best ever forward's sitting in the stands knocking back a couple of rum and cokes and having a few durries during the reserve grade game. Both played blinders that day, so I tend to not comment on footy players and alcohol.

Had never heard this one so looked it up. He did it after he had already been breathalized....wtf?
