Josh Hoffman

Re: ben barba/josh hoffman

Yeah Josh should be embarrassed by how much better Tony was. I think it was only like the 3rd time the big dogs played in the halves.

People hate the 'drop Hoffman and promote a half" philosophy around here but even if our lower grade players aren't up for it, we have better stop gap options currently in the team.

Here are players in our team that I think could make better 5/8s than a Josh.

Barba, Reed, Hodges, Macca, Gillo, Glenn, Hannent, Moose, Granville, Steven Kearny, most the cheerleaders, the left corner post,

Admittedly Reed might be a stretch, though he had a good short kicking game. The rest I genuinely believe have more skills that'd translate to being a half than Hoffman, and a few of those would be far better in defence.

The whole situation reminds me of that quote about Ringo..

"is Hoffman the best 5/8 in the world?"
"He's not even the best 5/8 in the broncos"

Lol, the left corner post! Is the inanimate carbon rod available?

Re: ben barba/josh hoffman

That's so discriminating for the right corner post...

Hoffman doesn't play right side so there are times when we attack where the right corner post is needed. Being the corner post on the side Hoffman would pass to means left corner post has no job to do. LCR knows this so instead of practicing standing in an upright position he works hard at his ball playing skills.

Left corner post had me cracking up, LOL.

That may be true, but the comparison is to Hoggman, not the other corner post...

Re: ben barba/josh hoffman

I laughed out loud at the left corner post. Quality work!

Re: [Official] Broncos sign Darren Nicholls

Injury cover for Hunt.

So the broncos view that should our best half go done nicholls would be a suitable replacement, however he's not up to the task of replacing Hoffman?

Does that sound nuts to anyone else?

Makes perfect sense. Hoffman is our second best half.

Of course that's if you apply Hook logic:

This is not directed entirely at you Shed,

But I am getting more annoyed every day I spend reading this forum with the sarcastic, whinging, repeat the same thing in every thread regardless of topic, comments that keep appearing on here.

It is all good to select young halves for first grade who are genuinely ready and have a good chance to succeed. And the there is option B. .. throw kids to the wolves, who aren't physically or mentally ready for NRL level and are destined for failure thus setting their careers back years.

Personally, I'm glad hook is not choosing option B. Even if it means Hoffman staying in the halves for the rest of the year.

OK, now let's hear the insults that are bound to come because I think it is better to develop guys like Nikorima in the ISC rather than in the NRL.

Nikorima will be Hoffman version 2 with a weaker running game and weaker defense. But I suppose that will mske everyone on here happy because it will get Hoffman out of the halves, even if it means we are worse off

Problem is, there is another option. Nicholls. If not him another q cup half that can pass the ball.

I'm not and never have advocated throwing kids in the deep end, but we bought a half apparently so he can be backup for hunt, but apparently he isn't better than Hoffman.

How's he playing in the ISC, and just for one don't buy the common answer to that question "it doesn't matter how he's been playing"

Re: [Official] Broncos sign Darren Nicholls

I agree with Foordy TBH. Hoffman wouldn't be there unless he were the best option when both sides of the ball are considered.

No worries, mate. For the record, I wasn't really having a go at hook there. I was pointing out his reasoning and why it isn't as bizarre as that poster made out. I tacked on the hook part because I feel like The club never should have been in the situation where a winer IS our second best half option.

Re: [Official] Broncos sign Darren Nicholls

He is very much a running half Foordy, though he does have a very nice passing game. In my opinion, he could certainly handle first grade but is he better than Hoffman? I would say definitely yes, however he is an unknown at first grade level and we all need to face the fact that Hook is a conservative coach and no amount of whinging will change that other than to annoy everybody with the same comments every thread.

I've never said that. I'm a bit tired of some posters painting all other posters with the same brush.

Quite simply I find it impossible to believe that in the entire QLD cup or NSW cup for that matter that there isnt a half that could do a better job than Hoffman. I'm sorry but I refuse to believe that and if that is somehow the case, the NRL should just pack it up. Because if none of these players arent a better half than a winger, no not just a winger, a winger that literally can not pass the ball... our props have more passing skills than hoffma.

wow.... just fucking wow

We can't just pick any player we want our of the ISC. I'm not sure how we are going with our second their cap, but that could be a factor too. The Raiders were just denied giving a winger a debut because they have another fit winger (namely Reece Robinson).

Apart from the fact we have to use guys on our books already since the mid season deadline to sign players for the current season has passed.

Hoffman isn't genuinely ready nor does he have what it takes to succeed as a 5/8 at this level.
