Josh Hoffman

Re: ben barba/josh hoffman

We aren't back at the start. Barba pretty much has not been playing the 6 all year. If that was the case Barba would have been doing a lot more kicking at the very least. The defense will be a huge issue for Barba if he ends up in the 6 which is another concern.
I think he has been playing fullback and 5/8, in a limited manner of course, but he has been doing it all season.

Defense wise, I don't know which one will be more vulnerable at 5/8, but Barba is definitely better at fullback imo.

I do believe that Milford will be better suited to the halves, not only for the passing and kicking, which are on par, but he's probably just that little bit more explosive to take the line on...

Re: ben barba/josh hoffman

You would have thought they would have got a clue after the failed Maranta debacle.

Apparently they bulked him up so he could play like a five-eight in attack, but I think if he was the same weight as he was in 2012 he would be a better and more dangerous five-eight anyway.

Re: ben barba/josh hoffman

I have a funny feeling griffin said to hoffy at the start of season, ill give you half a season in the 6. So he didn't leave after the 1 jersey was taken off him.

Re: ben barba/josh hoffman

Hoffman is a distraction. He's a decoy. I think Hook's plan was always to change Barba's style from mainly running the ball to play making both to compensate for Hoffman simply not being a 5/8, and to capitalize on Hoffman distracting the defence

Re: ben barba/josh hoffman

I'd like to bag out Hoffman for a new reason - not scoring enough tries. When Norman was five-eight and went himself too often he at least scored 10 tries that year. Hoffman, despite going himself every single time possible, has only one try all year, in the last minute against an inept Knights team.

He should seriously pass it, but if he's going to be a ball hog, he could at the very least do a better job of it. Hunt has 7x as many tries because he gets room to run because defences considers the possibly he'll pass. If someone told Josh he'd score more if he passed it more maybe the light would go on. People who have scored more than Hoffman this year include:

Dave Tyrell, Matt Scott, James Graham, Martin Tapau, Sam Moa, Kenny Bromwich, Paul Vaughan, Brenton Lawrence, Sam Tagatese and Josh McGuire. Hell, Oates has more tries and he barely gets on the field most games.

Re: ben barba/josh hoffman

True Norman scored more tries but probably because he did actually throw the occasional pass, they know Hoffman won't

Re: ben barba/josh hoffman

I just spat Hot Cocoa over my keyboard.

Not really, but I miss FaithinkHook, he knew how to brighten this place up even during the darkest of times.

It's pretty clear the Broncos are playing with one hand tied behind their back. Hoffman's defence was again on show tonight but he just doesn't offer enough offensively to warrant a spot.

And I say this knowing full well last night was one of his better performances with the footy.

Just goes to show that we needed a stop-gap and everything should have been done to secure one in the off-season. Oh well, hopefully the kids keep playing like they allegedly did on Saturday (will check the game out for myself, I get the feeling that I'm going to be disappointed because the coverage was so good that anything less than Langer circa 92 is going to disappoint me.

As for Barba.

Get him on a see-food diet and let him get back to doing what he does best - supporting his players. I threw a fit when Copley made that large run, looking inside, only to see Barba on the other side of the field playing his 'full eigth' (fiveback?) role.

Run Barba, Run!

Well no wonder they call me Big Pete, I've had it all back to front.

New plan, give him pro-anna tips. I want him to return to his lean mean physique so he can run past these big boppers, not through overrated chavs.

Re: ben barba/josh hoffman

Defence in the front line is the key concern, but I think we could do worse than swap the two.

Barba has more vision and play making ability, and i think Hoffman might work out at fullback getting quality ball and hitting holes from Hunt and Barba.

Hoffman looked fine at FB with Lockyer in the halves. Little wonder his effectiveness declined with P-Wall and Corey (sub) Normal captaining the ship. Now that we have some direction in attack, I think he could do well there. Plus our left edge would also benefit from increased quality of ball.

If nothing else, I hope we get to see it experimented with at least once this year. It's a possibility that Barba will play 6 next year and Milford the 1. Might give us an idea how that'd play out.

Re: ben barba/josh hoffman

Does the NRL record a stat for tries saved...? If so how many has Barba got this year compared to the other Fullbacks in the Comp..?

Re: ben barba/josh hoffman

I feel bad to say it and I am not proud of it... but... when Hoffman got hit late after his kick and I saw him clutching his knee I sort of hoped he had a minor injury that would have kept him out of the game against the Sharks. Nothing major just a minor injury that would have kept him out a week just to rest it because it wasn't 100%.

That's what i was just about to post

As much as most of us here hate the thought of it, i think Hook will probably leave Hoffman at 5/8 for the rest of the season.
