Josh McGuire signs with Cowboys - Immediate Switch

Just saw Moose training for the cowboys for the first time and it made me sick. He was the only one in our side with that arrogant attitude simular to what Parker & Hodges had. We don't have that anymore and teams will figure this out quickly next year. Unless we are about to sign another enforcer then when times are tough, these kids will fold like deck chairs

You dont have to be a grub to be good at footy. Infact players acting in that way is a stain on the game. If we want people getting their children involved in rugby league then we need to remove the thuggery out of it. The game needs to evolve and become more professional in that regard.

I fully agree with you, but on the field when things get heated you need an enforcer there otherwise as Mitch just said the younger less experienced players will too easily back down. They don't necessarily have to act in a grubby fashion (Tunsa springs to mind) but they do need to pose a deterrent threat to would be opposition bullies.

Webke, Thorn and Civoniceva went alright without this type of attitude . I think McGuire is a loss but a calculated one given his age, dollars and reported prickly personality. I think we need to recruit a leader with an old level head to replace him even if not as talented. I would go Fensom or another value option.

Good luck with that. The game only thrives in the working class areas and that will never change. Even without the thuggery, the game is still very physical and the parents get very passionate and many over passionate. It is just that sort of sport, it will never appeal to all spectrums of society like AFL or NFL.

Just look at the difference Blair made in defence. The Broncos really missed his intensity and attention to detail last season, meanwhile the Warriors were noticeably improved in that capacity.

In fairness to the Broncos, they do have Thomas Flegler coming through. It's only a matter of time before Tom sees first grade - he's going to win admirers very quickly.

I'd be more inclined to say that parents of today need to grow a set.

You've just described Patrick Carrigan.

That may be true. Unfortunately we live in a world that is changing and will only continue to do so. I just want the sport I love to continue to grow and thrive.

I love how tough rugby league is. It's one of the main reasons why I watch it. I'm sure most people share a similar view. What I dont like seeing is players commit grubby acts like pushing their elbow into another players face in the tackle. I have never liked that aspect of rugby league.

I wouldn’t say McGuire was anywhere near the same level as Parker and Hodges. Plus he was far from being an enforcer in defence or attack.

Tommy is great. He is a bit of a loose cannon though!
