Justin Hodges Cleared to Play

Re: Justin Hodges on report

Guerra believed Queensland Origin teammate Hodges should not sweat on the 57th-minute tackle in the veteran centre's 250th NRL game.

"I think common sense will prevail on that tackle," he said.

"It was a penalty - nothing more, nothing less.

"He'll be right."

Even gutted Roosters coach Trent Robinson wanted veteran centre Hodges to be sent out a winner.

"It would be tough (to miss the grand final)," he said.

"I hope he gets his fairytale and gets to play."

This was from Bennett in the same article...

Broncos coach Wayne Bennett - now in sight of his seventh title for Brisbane and eighth overall - wasn't losing any sleep over Hodge's tackle.

"I am not overly worried about it," he said.

"We have capable replacements if worst comes to worst."

This is an interesting one. It seems only the biggest Broncos/Hodges haters actually want him rubbed out for the Grand Final. Even Gus was on his side last night.

I think maybe, just maybe, Hodges is going to dodge this. Just a gut feeling is all...

Re: Justin Hodges on report

I've seen the replay a fair few times now, Hodgo will play. Guerra clearly jumped to milk a penalty. There is that plus Hunt underneath means other contributing factors lead to Guerra ending upside down. If Pritchard can get off which I think was the right decision Hodges will be fine.

I don't think Guerra was trying to milk a penalty. You'd have to be pretty stupid to actually want to fall on your head, even if it gets you a penalty.

I like Robinson, he seems like a decent coach and bloke, even if he is in charge of a shitstain club,

Re: Justin Hodges on report

Just use the BS dogs excuse that Hunt contributed more to it than Hodgo, but since he hasn't been charged he can't miss game time. Guerra seems like a decent bloke, I hope he gives evidence that he jumped into it.

EDIT: Or the Isaac Luke, "I feared for my life. I have to put food into my kids mouths."

Re: Justin Hodges on report

Watching it again, there's not even any lifting action. It's all a leg pull. His left hand is on Guerra's calf, and his right is on his hip or stomach, and Guerra basically falls away from Hodges, more than Hodges exerting any force. Honestly, I don't even know that it should have been a penalty, but that's certainly all it should have been.

We are the Broncos. Our record at the judiciary speaks for itself.

Re: Justin Hodges on report

I suspect common sense will prevail this time and Hodges will in all likelihood play in the GF. The judiciary has been copping a public pasting recently and I think it would be a popular call and well received if Hodges has no case to answer.

Re: Justin Hodges on report

I think he has a reasonable chance of beating this. All Justin did was lift a leg,it was actually Hunt who pulled AG over.In no way did Justin lift him to place him in a dangerous position. More to the point is who is on the judiciary now?

Also, how fit would Justin be to play anyway? He looked pretty lame when he went off to get needled.

Re: Justin Hodges on report

When are the charges released?

Re: Justin Hodges on report

Even if it wasn't a Bronco, you just can't charge someone for that. Seriously

Re: Justin Hodges on report

Hodges is a winner. We want him there

Yeah, but if it was Thurston in this situation, I bet we'd all be finding ways to justify a suspension for him.

Re: Justin Hodges on report

We are 7-0 without Hodges this year FWIW

Still, hoping he will get off, somehow

Re: Justin Hodges on report

We have shown we can without Hodges.. But, they weren't Grand Finals.

His experience and leadership will be very valuable out there.

I think Kahu could be exposed out on the big stage without such an experienced player right there next to him.

Re: Justin Hodges on report

Gerard Whateley (AFL expert) and Sterlo both think it's a certainty that Hodges will be charged and then attempt to prove his innocence on Tuesday night, where he will be found not guilty.

Is it likely that the judiciary will deliberately charge him just to show that they tried to be unbiased, before the tribunal absolves Hodgo of guilt?

Re: Justin Hodges on report

Guerra pretty much admits that he did that on purpose to get a penalty. Just a couple of his comments.

“I was playing for a penalty and I think the penalty is where it should be left,’’ Guerra told The Sunday Telegraph. “For something like that, it would pretty rough (to miss a grand final).’’

“I will be fine,’’ Hodges said. “He jumped in the tackle, I couldn’t do anything about it.’’

Asked if Hodges’ assumption was correct, Guerra said: “Yeah. I got the penalty. It would be a shame for a player to miss out on a grand final because of that.’’

If the MRC still charge him, it's a fucking joke.
