Re: Justin Hodges on report
He has been charged.
Grade one dangerous throw.
He has been charged.
Grade one dangerous throw.
When will they be fighting the charge? Tuesday?
Guerra has admitted jumping to milk a penalty. How can he NOT get off?
JUSTIN Hodges will be suspended from the NRL grand final. This is the view of long-serving match review committee boss Greg McCallum who spent 10 years deciding what NRL players were charged with.
McCallum said Aidan Guerra’s testimony that he contributed to the dangerous position he ended in would mean nothing at the judiciary.
McCallum’s opinion will shatter the hopes of not only Broncos fans but rugby league supporters who want to see the retiring Hodges have a chance at completing his fairytale on Sunday.
McCallum said Hodges would be found guilty because his tackle on Guerra was very similar to numerous grade one dangerous throw charges.
He said Hodges’ only hope was a heavy hearted judiciary, which is expected to decide his fate tomorrow night, becoming sympathetic under pressure.
“You can’t put players on their heads. You just can’t,” said McCallum, who left the NRL in 2013.

“The match review committee will see that Ben Hunt was involved and Aidan Guerra contributed but that’s why it is a grade one and not grade two.
“I have a lot of sympathy for Justin.
“In my view he is guilty for what he’s been charged with.
“My opinion is, unless the tribunal is sympathetic, he will miss the grand final.
“I have seen players at Origin and finals get off when we were sure we had an iron-clad case and the pressure of the evidence and the way it is presented made it a compelling case.
“I know the Broncos will present a compelling case.”
I have to agree with Morkel, I think he is gone as well. There is an appeal process from a decision of the judiciary to the NRL Appeals Committee, but once that body rules that is it, there is no review of their decision. I guess they will have nothing to lose by trying the further appeal. His best hope appears to lie with the the three players feeling some sympathy for him (a) retiring (b) being involved in an incident where clearly both Guerra and Hunt contribute significantly to the outcome and (c) missing out on a Grand Final for a relatively minor incident.
