Justin Hodges

I know this an old thread, but being new I didn't want to start a new one up at risk of upsetting the locals :).

This article today on Justin Hodges speaking about Ben Barba - Justin Hodges admits Ben Barba is struggling to find his best form in Brisbane | News.com.au

Hodges seems to be very straight up in a lot of his media interviews. I know a lot of what he says is quoted out of context, but he seems just about the only person in the Broncos camp who calls a spade a spade. Do you guys think it is a good thing or a bad thing? I know the Hoffman quotes he did a little while ago caused a bit of a stir.

Maybe he is trying to prepare himself for a post-career media role being like Gordon Tallis as the 'bad guy'? Maybe he just feels like it is his responsibility to tell things as they are and put a rocket up the players? Personally I like his approach.

the article and his comments certainly have a different feel to them than when he commented about Hoffman and fullback

It's always refreshing to hear a player say it like it is....instead of all the usual cliches.

Not sure how journos are getting these ripping yarns out of Justin Hodges .. If ever there was a footballer who spoke nonsensical, cliched jibberish it's Justin Hodges ... three out of every four words he says in interviews is "y'know" ....

LOL. Most of the older Queensland journos had to report Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen's quotes, so they are well versed in editing jibberish.

its good to hear him be a bit honest. He's one of the few players who can get away with it (and not have his words twisted by the press and fans) mostly because he has earned everyone's respect for how good he is and how passionate he is about the Broncos jumper

I'd have guys like Hodgo in my team every day of the week ... Totally committed "club-man", invaluable member of the senior player squad ... and he gets under the oppositions skin as much as he does their defence, a Bronco to the core.

Who can forget this ...

The best! You can always tell the really great players by how much NSW fans hate them and vice versa. Hodgo is one of the last real characters as well.

If it were Ennis I would to fast forward 8 years and find the next Hodgo who could point to McCullough and say the same thing about him after he represents state and country and smashes them all.

Back on topic somewhat.

Hodges is the best centre in the game who is dragged way down by the condition of his body. Were it not for his 2 or 3 major injuries per year, he would be in line for a Dally M. People say he needs a lot of work on his attitude but I disagree. He is sort of Ennis Lite which is useful to a team. Pissing off the opposition, making them aggro then making them pay for their loss of focus is what Hodges does best.

Let Parker play the straight man. Hodges mind games play a valuable role.

Hunt, Gillett, Hodges and Copley (with Barba lurking behind) is a mouthwatering combination

he is also dragged way down by some poor service from our so called play makers.

or alternatively hunt>barba>gillett>hodges>hoffman with copley replacing reed at the opposite centre and a the 6 we didn't sign in the off season.

I reckon as the season goes on, especially post-Origin once Hunt & Hodges develop a combination we are going to be one of the best right side attacking teams in the league...If Hodges can stay injury free (knock wood)

Nope, that's Jamie Lyon by a country mile. He's one of the best centres to ever play the game IMO. I've never seen a player who can so consistently and easily beat their man and set up their winger, week in week out, year in year out.
