Justin Hodges

To add to concerns about Lockyer, Test centre Justin Hodges is also increasingly unlikely to play this year. Hodges, who ruptured his achilles tendon in the pre-season, will not play against Newcastle or the Warriors, leaving the Raiders game in the final round as possibly his last chance.

And then the Broncos have to weigh up the benefits of playing him when he will not be at his best.

No Hodgo this year I'd say.

Yep, that's a shame, but for the best I think. Next year is gonig to be great hopefuly!

Hodgo pulled up sore Monday and could not train today. I guess it's see ya next year! [icon_thumbs_do

Is it just me or is Hodges a bit more level headed now, Last season and before he would be pushing to come back not caring about being fit just wanting to show off and be there, this year he is taking his time and wanting to do it the right way.

Hodges and Thaiday both becoming "smarter" blokes with K gone.

INJURED Brisbane centre Justin Hodges has dismissed concerns for his long-term future and outlined his plan to remain at the Broncos until 2015.

Speaking exclusively with The Courier-Mail, Hodges, 28, declared his body could survive in the NRL for another five years, despite the frustration of an achilles injury that threatens to wipe out his 2010 campaign.

Hodges has not appeared on the paddock since last November, when he represented Australia in the Four Nations final, and his litany of injuries has sparked speculation he is considering quitting the Broncos to play in England next season.

But the Test three-quarter says he is not planning retirement any time soon, and hopes to emulate Darren Lockyer by remaining at Red Hill beyond his 33rd birthday.

"I think I have another five years in me," said Hodges, who has previously undergone knee and shoulder reconstructions.

"I know I can get back to the player I was. Having this year off has made my body feel good.

"My knees and my shoulder haven't been copping any punishment week to week, so this is the best I've ever felt.

"Obviously this (achilles) injury has been a negative, but the positive is it has extended my career because it has helped the rest of my body recover."

I'm glad to hear he's keen to hang around.

Fully fit he's an exciting player to watch, and if he returns to full fitness next season, we are going to have one hell of an exciting backline icon_thumbs_u

As he gets older/slower I wouldn't mind them looking into playing him as a wide running backrow player with a bit of a roving commission. He is so strong in his upper body and his the ability to put guys away with balls before and through the line, I think it would be a natural progression for him especially if we get some good kids like Copley and Gagai maturing and banging on the door for first grade.

I see it as a positive. It's now "too late" to return anyway, he would be finding his feet while leading into the finals which is something we can't afford. A fully fit Hodges next year will be great, he will rip it up when he plays next season if he is fully fit and with Inglis on the other side and Hannant leading the pack, things are looking super exciting for next year _woohoo_

I can't remember who it was (RBY or someone) saying he was no chance this year which I didn't agree with. Anyway you were right, I was (albeit optimistic) wrong icon_thumbs_u

...yeah. I don't think so, anyone will tell you that an achillies tendon injury is one of the most difficult injuries to return from, he won't ever be the same player, I'll take that to the bank.

Bannermania is right, and his best chances of coming back as good as possible is to give his recovery as much time as possible.

Sitting out this season and having the full offseason to build up strength and flexibility is the key to him being as good a player as he can be on his return.

I applaud Hodgo for putting both the team and his own welfare ahead of the obvious pressure that there would be to get a star player like him back on the field.

2015 hey.....so thatll add another 20-30 games to his tally. fantastic.

see how he goes next year, and if he doesnt almost reach the heights he has before, time to cut him loose. i dont care if HE wants to stay with the Broncos for another 20 years - that decisions not up to him.

Hodges is dreaming if he is thinking 2015, lets see ho whe comes back from this injury and then maybe re-sign him if he is prepared to take a paycut and sign only a 2 year deal.

I did suggest that the dates being thrown about earlier in the season regarding Hodges' return were ridiculous.
There is the physical recovery and then there is the psychological recovery.

I am 12 months post injury last week and what I can say in my case is that the recovery is much more complete in the 8 - 12 month period than it was at 6 months.

Before the ' but Hodges has the best support people etc' argument is bandied about, the reality is that in the early months you can do bugger all, regardless.

I don't think he'll ever be the same, but hopefully he can prove me wrong.
Some have come back, some have hung the boots up.
He may do both in one season.

He can hang around till 2015 if he wants. Aflie's starting to get old, and I'm sure he could use a hand to run (or walk in Hodges case) the water.

Haha. I truly cannot see him playing NRL after next year though, not necessarily retirement, but probably over in Super League.

Geez some of you guys are pretty harsh towards Hodgo.

He's expressing a desire to stay loyal to the club, something that's refreshing to hear these days.

Let's see how he goes after fully recovering for next year before we throw him on the scrapheap 'eh
