Yeah that is my only criticism of Hodges, he's been unable to convert his dominance in the NRL to rep level. Agreed Inglis is a big game player, however he has a tendency to go MIA at other stages. When fit, I think Hodges brings more to the Broncos than what Inglis does to the Storm. IMO he's the most consistent centre at club level.
It feels like I posted this with your account. I 10000000000% agree with you! I have the exact same thoughts. Inglis is amazing at rep level Hodges is average at rep level. However at club level Inglis can go MIA in so many games where as Hodges is always trying his heart out and has a huge influence on the team every game he plays, well close to anyway.

I think stronger defence out wide in rep games make it more difficult for Hodges to perform well. He certainly plays with his heart on his slave for Broncos. Anyone remember the game where he was extremely crook but still came off the bench. He looked horrible.

It just goes to show how much Broncos supporters have been spoilt over the years with class players if they can sit here and bag Hodges out.

All I want to know is when did Hodges get a slave, is this part of the rehabilitation regime???? No wonder he gets tired if his slave has his heart when he is playing :)

Couldn't agree more. He's not in the Steve Renouf class but if he's not in the top 3 centres the club has even had then there are some very hard markers out there

Yep I have to agree as well. Particularly the way he does put in every time he plays for the club. He would have to be in the top 3 to 4.

Hodges isn't in my top 3 Broncos centres.

1. Renouf
2. Johns
3. Smith

All a matter of personal opinion, I would have him ahead of Johns. I agree with the other two, and I would have Johns fourth.

On what criteria would Chris Johns be ahead of Hodges? Johns was a very good centre but he was hardly a gamebreaker like Renouf or Hodges (or even Tate) Methinks I'm starting to agree with Rocky on your opinion of Hodges.

Johns:
- defensively superior
- kick chase superb
- hit gaps and read the play in attack beautifully
- worked magnificently off his halves
- great support player

All the things you want from a centre. Hodges is good defensively and on the kick chase, but his ability to actually hit the line and support breaks is poor.

But the fact that he can make a break on his own coupled with his ability to constantly draw two defenders and pass to an open winger puts him well above Johns for mine.

Agree 100%. Id even have Tate above Hodges. Tate had / has a great fend which he used at speed while hitting gaps.

Since when was the definition of a top centre 'someone who, like, maybe hits gaps hard and stuff?'.

There are so many sheep around here.

Well considering the best way to create opportunities for your winger is to get outside your opposite centre and draw the opposite winger in, then if you're hitting the gap and running onto a ball you're more likely to do that.

Hodges does it, yes, but he does it through strength. Step the centre, force the winger to come in and help, and then creates space for the winger. But he does it slowly.

Haha, Tate above Hodges?

I've heard it all now!

Next thing you know, you'll have Steve Michaels down as a better player. [icon_razz1

Tate plays his best at Rep Level. very rarely for the past few years has he done much at Club level.
