Let's bag the Titans

The legion was chanting bullshit all night. Must be not happy with the teams performance

They are missing a decent 1,6 & 9.

But their decent 9 was shafted by Searle. (I have said before Searle is a farking idiot)

They lack any options with the leadership IMO

He's never been a big talker on the field, and has always failed to lead the team.

I just want to know what has happened down the Coast. Such a massive backwards step off the past few years.

I think the loss of Rogers was bigger than they expected it to be. He bought so much experience to their team and everyone there just loved playing with him. That and they have no decent 5/8ths to replace him.

Prince's captaincy isn't the problem. It's his horrible form. Not helped by their popgun pack. Other than Bailey they play like a steaming pile of dog turd, Bird included.

Their high profile, relatively old recruits got older. And declined.

Scott Prince, Preston Campbell, Luke Bailey, Matt Rogers, Anthony Laffranchi. The Titans went out all bought all these very established players. Outside of William Zillman I can't think of any other Titans player of note that was brought to the club. There appears to have been very little planning for the future in their recruitment process. And even when they do have a younger player that has some potential (Tomane), they basically ignore him so that they can play people out of position ahead of him.

To be fair, they are missing Nathan Friend. But even still, I think the Titans just went out trying to win a premiership from year one, rather than trying to build a squad for the future. Look at the Gold Coast Suns. They suck compared to the Titans first year performance, but in 5-10 years time they will have achieved a lot more, simply because their recruitment emphasis was on youth and the future and giving young players a go. Outside of two decent wingers (Mead, Gordon) and a mediocre centre (Esi Tonga) I can't name any young player the Titans have actively tried to promote and develop. Even William Zillman, they moved him around all the time, benched him etc. for the Dad's Army brigade of Campbell and Rogers. Now they are simply paying the price for employing that kind of thinking.

They bought in Ash Harrison AND Greg Bird, I'd rate both ahead of Zillman.

As for blooded players Bodene Thompson, Ryan James, Ben Ridge and Will Matthews.

But yeah fair assessment, I'm not at all surprise. The signs were there last year before Rogers saved them. Without him, injuries to Friend, Laffranchi and Minichiello, tough opening draw and very public disinterest in this season the Titans were always going to struggle.

I'm still surprised with their management of their juniors. That was easily one of the big selling points and with Walker tearing up Q Cup in 2007 and Sandow making waves along with a plethora of schoolboy talent it appeared the Titans would really find that great balance that saw the Tigers take out the 2005 premiership...but it never went quite exactly as it was planned.

Sorry, I meant to say young player of note. I still forgot Greg Bird -- well, I thought he was older than he was at the time of joining them (23). Harrison (26) I wouldn't really have called a young signing though (not old, just not young either).

I don't really follow the Titans too closely, but what's the go with Mathews, Ridge and James? I don't know how far along they are in terms of their development and how legitimate this is, but players like Brad Meyers and Matthew White have been played ahead of this trio time and time again. Is it a case of those young forwards not being ready, or was it just a case of the Titans not trying to promote their youngsters the way they needed to?
