I find it interesting that people use the records of coaches in QLD/NSW cup as a reason to suggest any particular coach is a good one. I would say all you would need is to be an approachable bloke with an above average understanding of footy, you don't have to motivate them. They'd be motivated enough wanting to play in the NRL.
The Walker brothers even managed to win a comp, as joint coaches.
He's certainly no better than an O'Brien, Ciraldo or Fitzgibbon, at least not yet. It will come down to how well he can manage the team he's got and then how well he is at getting blokes to play for him in the future. If he was a flop it wouldn't surprise me, if he had success it wouldn't surprise me either, it's definitely an unknown, which is all I was saying when I listed out the queries Souths have hanging over their heads as we head into the season.
