NEWS Milford: we sorted it out

Anthony Milford has passed through the nine circles of football Hell and emerged much the same - still laid back, circumspect and always eager for succulent meal beneath the Golden Arches:

“I don’t believe it’s the end for me here at the Broncos. It’s not true that I don’t care. The fire is still burning inside me and I want to be the best player I can be. But as a playmaker, if you aren’t getting good ball, there’s not really much you can do. I’m only 26, so I feel I still have a lot to offer, whether that’s the Broncos or another club. I have to bounce back and I believe I will.”

Sunset, here we come

Kotoni being promised five-eighth hasn’t bothered me at all. I am not worrying about Kotoni or anyone else. The club has an obligation to sign some players and it doesn’t faze me if Kotoni could be the five-eighth. Competition is always healthy, so I‘m not worried about that. We will see what happens when Kotoni gets back."

“I have heard the reports about not being offered a new Broncos deal, so I saw ‘Kevvie’ about it and he has reassured me that everything is in my control. I have to play well to get a new contract. He said there is no timeframe, whether it‘s one or two weeks, but he assured me he hadn’t given up on me. I definitely haven’t given up on myself."

"I’ve taken it on the chin, I still enjoy myself at training and I will do my best to fight back. For whatever reason, my performances haven’t always been consistent in games. I am realistic about the situation. I’ve had a few discussions with my manager about my future but nothing is set in stone."

" It’s my ideal plan to stay at the Broncos, but if it doesn’t happen I have two kids and a family to look after and I have to do what’s best for them. If that means leaving the Broncos, so be it, but everything is in my control. My destiny is in my hands. Hopefully over the next few months my future will take care of itself.”

Destiny

“It caught me by surprise, no-one likes to be dropped. Kevvie called a meeting and told me my performances weren’t up to scratch. I had my views against it. I said to Kevvie it’s hard for the halves to do something when a team loses by 50. That’s not a criticism of my teammates, but when a side is on the back foot, it’s difficult for the halves to dominate a game. But we sorted it out. Kevvie said he wanted me to be busier around the ball and that’s a good challenge for me."

"The Broncos aren’t just going to give me a deal for no reason. I know I have to play well and if I do that, I will have a future here, so it’s on me now.”

If Milford comes within cooee of Broncos training, he should be tasered.
Maybe we can shackle him with one of those proximity collars that you put on dogs. If he gets within 100 yards of red hill he receives a shock.

he wouldn't have been picked tonight if Hunt and Croft weren't injured and Gamble wasn't suspended.

I don't recall Seibold ever dropping Boyd like Walters has done twice (about to be three times) with Milford

There are tonnes of options to put in there before you pick Milf again. It was a stupid call, from a weak coach.

what was even the upside even if he did have a blinder? **** kevvie is a stupid ****

I am convinced Milf's current state is due to his poor training history. He is totally not up to the modern game, he looks tired after 10 minutes. It's an utter disgrace, the new rules have totally exposed him. When his style of play is exactly what the new rules suited, but he just doesn't have the gas to support people or throw a pass. That TPJ offload that resulted in try, Milf just stood there and looked, never left his mark to try and get the ball or give chace.

His total lack of professionalism has cost him. He has made excuses and promises but until he looks himself in the mirror and owns the fact that he is not in elite condition he will continue to be a failure.

Make it within a 100 kms radius.

I don’t think that’s conditioning, that’s a mental thing. He’s cooked.

I remember when I played there would be some games where a switch would flick and I would be everywhere but the rest of the time (read majority) I was just a lazy plodder but that had nothing to do with physical ability. Milfs just stuck in that rut IMO

*oops didn’t realise this was the thread I was meant to stay out of.

It’s time for Milford to go.

He needs a change of scenery. He’s a terrific player when he’s playing with confidence but it’s like he’s mentally shot. A change of scenery playing with a different club could be just what he needs to get that spark back. It’s not going to happen at the Broncos, though.

He wouldnt have been picked unless suspension and injury as well as dearden going

There were other options. I think it's more Kevv doesn't want to admit Milf is done and he failed to get him going again.

When he through that pass to Arthurs I thought "this guy is gone, he's completely out of confidence" - he doesn't have an iota of it left.

Milford was best when he wasn't thinking. When they tried to make him think, it never really stuck. He developed a good boot for a while there, that part stuck for a while, but it was at the expense of other aspects of his game. The thinking part though, he never really got his hear around it. Pun half intended.

The other thing is. It looks like he doesn't like football anymore. It happens. But as someone else said, it's his professionalism letting him down. This is what can happen when you've got talents that are second nature. You develop through childhood with no real work ethic. When it comes to improving, if you don't have that, it just won't happen. That's Milf it appears.

IT pains me to say it, but Milf has become MILFO unfortunately - the Meanderer I'd Love to F__k Off.

I was at the game. He was bent over blowing after 8mins or so and I thought to myself it was going to a long night from there. The fitness thing is not a meme. It’s truth.

What were the other options. Dearden could not play so walters could be brought in. Hunt and Cronk injured and Gamble suspened. Hooker depth also makes it harder to move Turpin. I think it was forced upon him.
