Apparently ScoMo gave him a call and told him to pull his head in, in not so many words.apparently the NRL has backflipped and the Anthem will now be played.
V'Landys has spoken
I suppose it could be mary had a little lamb but drowning out the hired singer at the game is a right of passage. Other than a try, it's probably the loudest part of being there.
I don't think we need a "new" anthem, there's already a re-written version which is fine - and lets face it, who's going to learn a new one other than our kids.
Is the problem the anthem itself or the occasion in which the anthem is playing?
I am under the impression it was to avoid any drama around players refusing to sing the anthem. Is the problem the anthem itself or the occasion in which the anthem is playing?
The Occasion? Really? Its been sung at every single Origin since its inception.Occasion for me.

I don't think V'landys expected so much backlash from cancelling it.
The Anthem has been sung at every Origin since its inception 40 years ago, and there has been some animosity towards the players who refuse to sing it due to their indigenous heritage.
One article i read said it should be embraced by all, as it is inclusive of all Australians, as is evident by the opening lines of the song "Australians ALL let us rejoice" and that there is an indigenous round dedicated to Aboriginal Australians and that there is no expectation for them to sing the Anthem there, and that they should also embrace the anthem at Origin time to promote unity between cultures.
The issue i see, is that we are heading down the same path as the NFL, albeit under completely different circumstances.
I think the refusal to sing the anthem by the likes of Cody Walker, Ado-Carr, and Latrell are divisive more than anything, and promote segregation, not embracing each other first and foremost as Australians.
They have every right not to sing the Anthem, but have to accept the inevitable backlash they will face as a result.
So other than cancelling the Anthem, whats the solution? They would embrace them selfs as aboriginals. Nothing more Austrian than having your family live in Australia for 60,000 years
The whole problem is that the song is saying “we are young and free” around the same time aboriginals were getting murdered, raped and having their children ripped out of their arms. So that’s why it’s not as inclusive as some people might think, because it wasn’t including aboriginals, as they were far from free.
Me personally, I just think it’s a shit anthem in general and not from political stand. I was actually made to sing three versus at school and pledge allegiance to the flag
