Who should it be?

There is about 3 geniunely good coaches in the game currently and we have no hope of getting any of them.

Why bother with other teams sacked nonsense.

The 'we was robbed' comments about Green are interesting, as he was never about the that when he took over the Cows. I remember in the years preceding his appointment the Cows were eliminated from finals in some controversial circumstances for a couple of years in a row (there was the hand of God incident against Manly and an extra long tackle count against the Sharks). Henry was the coach at the time and he would blow up in the post match press conference about conspiracies and other nonsense that would make posters in our live match threads blush.

Fast forward to Green's first year in charge and the Cowboys go down against the Roosters in mildly controversial circumstances (there was a legit forward pass that was called back in a Cowboys play that would have led to a try) in an elimination semi. The media are goading JT into more accusations of conspiracies, but Green puts a stop to it saying they aren't interested in complaining about the refs and they need to focus on what they can control.

The year after the Cows win the comp and for some reason I stop following the Cows with the same level of interest as before.
I don’t like Green for a couple of reasons

the 1-17 meme where he wouldn’t drop players, and also stayed too loyal to his barely-winning premiership side

his (and JT’s) bleating in press conferences about ‘we waz robbed’ after games. You can be critical of refs without giving the impression you deserve to be given the upper hand by refs which is what it ended up being because when teams think of are told they’re good, they don’t believe they do anything wrong.

Plus he just doesn’t strike me as a good coach

He had a 2 minute premiership window and managed to have a game handed to him in that time.

inb4 someone says ‘yeah but what about B2B with Wynnum-Manly?’ - that was almost a decade ago.

2017-2020 seasons W/L %

57% - despite making the grand final, fell into 8th place losing 5 of their last 6

This can and will probably be dismissed as some anti-Cowboys revisionist history, but I just don’t think Green is what we want or need.

This is all I need to see. We can't hire the one coach who has actually performed worse than Seibold in the last 3 years. If we're going the have faith, the coach will turn it around angle, then we may as well have stuck with Seibold.

At this point we either go with a proven quantity (who realistically is only Shaun Wane) or go with an unproven rookie coach who is Kevin Walters, or we promote a coach from qcup.

There's only two coaches I would like to see hired and it's Wane or Walters. Anyone else I think is a bad choice, we could hire a gun qcup coach if they exist but if we're taking a risk, we may as well try out Walters with a 2 year contract and see how it goes. I don't understand why the wait though, just fucking announce the coach and get it done. There's no way you need all this time to decide, if the board didn't already know who they wanted before they sacked Seibold, they're utterly incompetent.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but at this stage utterly incompetent would be a step up for Broncos management.
Agree.
WB and JD seem to be doing ok at Rabbits but so did Seibold. They all struggled here that’s why they were all removed.
Clearly Richardson, his recruitment/retention and front office were on the ball.
Whoever becomes our new coach going forward will face the same problems as our previous lot.
We therefore have a bigger problem then selecting the right coach and that’s not solely fixing the front office - its finding someone who has the know how and guts to be able to do it. He needs to have the competency to identify the root cause for our over time fall from grace. Those responsible, no matter who they are, need to be shown the door quickly and we need to get on with it.

Unfortunately it is not possible to show the board the door so there is a real risk we are going to get more of the same.

At this point in time i am certain it will be Walters for two reasons:

1) Hes still got a fox commitment, announcing now and bringing him in would mean he has to leave fox before end of season.
2) Green is completely a free agent, could walk in at any time - but this hasn't happened. If he was going to be appointed it would be done by now.

……..

Uhmm, wot?
JD and WB here beating the top 4 (except Storm) on the regular is struggling?!? OKKAUY

You have a point about Green, he's been readily available for some time. I just don't see either of them as a great choice. Perhaps there's others or another being considered? The rookie coach, if we get one might be CS9 ?? It's quite intriguing and unsettling to not know or worse, what if the board is paralyzed by fear and simply cannot see a direction?

What if they're being paid to turn the club into rubble? ****, now I'm thinking like that conspiracy whackjob from a couple months ago!

There's no conspiracy afoot, Rupert Murdoch isn't getting the club to suck so it diverts attention away from lizard people running QAnon from their moon base or Scomo shitting his pants at Engadine Maccas after we beat the Sharts in the 1997 GF or anything like that. It's just the end result of management forgetting the team is the actual product and disappearing up their own backsides in a spreadsheet-fueled orgy of bonuses and self-aggrandisement.

Got flogged by Warriors and St George in couple weeks towards the end I know I was there for both games at home. Yes, in front of 35k+ home crowd at both games they struggled - piss poor.

Not unusual for members of a board to step aside. Besides a board is there to either accept or deny decisions or submissions. I’m talking about the person or persons smart enough to come up with right ideas to present to the board for consideration. A Shane Richardson, Peter Parr type I guess.

Slothfield reckons we should go with Paul Green, not Kevvie

sights a whole lot of club legends that sucked at club coaches (Freddie Fittler, Dean Pay, Wayne Pearce, Mick Cronin)

then says that good Origin coaches don't necessarily make good club coaches ... he uses Bellamy as an example.

Kevvie has done a nice job with the Queensland State of Origin team but that doesn’t make him a great club coach.

They are totally different gigs. Craig Bellamy is one of the finest club coaches in the history of the game but could hardly win a game with the NSW Blues.

Kevvie is untried at club level.

He wrote the opposite of what you read.

This board aren't going anywhere. If they had an ounce of accountability or respect for members they would have gone by now.
We also do not have a Richardson/Parr etc. type to tell them what needs to be done (and even if we did I doubt they would accept that advice because it would reflect poorly on them). As I have said there is a risk we will get more of the same.
