Nikorima > Granville

I would disagree and say that when Macca went off last year, particularly after Hunt was starting Halfback, that the team detiorated significantly without his presence on the field.

I would also say pick your best 17. You cannot be planning for injuries

that was mostly evident when wallace went to 14. he was crap.

i agree though. pick your best 17. playing someone on the bench because they're good injury cover is stupid.

The problem with McCullough is he does so much defence. If he plays the 80 this season I can see him making 70 tackles a game. Opposition teams will rack up his tackle count on purpose and his quality will suffer big time.

If the other forwards do their job properly then I don't think that would be much of a problem.

I think he had a high tackle count last season because of the lazy defense from other forwards. I felt he was trying to cover for them.

If we don't want a hooker on the bench and Macca needs a 10 minute break we can use Alex Glenn at hooker for a a quick burst. He runs well out of dummy half and can throw a pass. It isn't perfect but it is an option. Nikorima won't be used in the role IMO. I do hope we use Granville as our bench hooker.

Having Granville on the bench will hopefully also push McCullough to perform consistently....well, unless Granville duds it up Wallace style.

Alenn has has done it before for us not a bad option as the season goes on

Granville , apart from being a backup hooker could cover many positions . Has pace and can tackle , anywhere in the back line at a pinch.

I'm very reluctant to assume that playing fullback in defence two years ago in ISC means you can play anywhere in the back line in NRL.

If we're going with a utility, I'd pick Glenn ahead of Granville. He can certainly provide a break for Macca if necessary and fill in the backline if needed as well, besides being able to provide relief in the forwards too.

I actually don't mind this idea.

Having watched Kodi play in the NYC, I don't know if he's the type of player who will be able to perform in the NRL on a consistent basis, so if we were to use him, I think having him come off the bench and bringing him to play in the halves would be an ideal way to use him. It'd just be a matter of who plays six to begin with, I don't know if Strasser is necessarily a better option at this stage nor would it be wise to have somebody like Lowrie or Stagg open there.

Not ideal, but an option to consider.

I am of the view that he has played well enough to deserve the starting spot for at least the first 4 rounds. If he is inconsistent or under performs play Kahu, but at least he got some experience in top grade.

And it wasn't even for the Jets!

Because Macca is the hooker and not a half? I don't understand this response at all.

We don't know he's not a half until we play him there. That's what trials are for, experimenting. If he seems to have a good kicking game then lets find out.

we couldn't move Macca anyway ... we don't really have anyone who could be our number 1 hooker, except Macca

I agree. Granville would only be effective when the forwards are tired.

What I meant was as utility value. He would obviously not start there but could cover several spots. In the same john Plath used to.
