Nikorima > Granville

Hannant 50-60min
Mcguire50-60min
Kennedy 40min
Glenn- can do 80 easy
Thaiday- can do 80 easy
Parker-160min (just that good he could do two games straight)
Gillett-60min
Lowrie- depending what position but has a great motor
Macca-65
Granville-15

We have some of the fittest front rowers and our second rowers who have breaks as an option not because they have to. We can easily afford another hooker

Only 2 games? I think you are greatly underestimating him there :P

I think we can afford to give Thaiday a bench break every now and then. He tends to be a fairly explosive runner so the more energy he has to burn, the better.

there is no real need for 4 forwards on our bench. mcguire hannant are big minute players. parker plays 80. gillett can as well, but doesnt need to. thaiday needs to go back to 55 ish to be most successful. to me it should be:

props total of 160 minutes, roughly:
hannant 50
mcguire 50
kennedy 40
4th prop (molo,whoever) 20

backrow (240 mins)
parker 80 mins. no need for a rest, ever.
thaiday 55 mins
gillett 60 mins
glenn 45 mins

there is no necessity for another forward on the bench.

I bet we will not go for a 4th Prop that spot is Lowries without a doubt he is a player who doesnt play reserve grade

I'd give Glenn another 5 out of Gillett's but thats pretty spot on

lowrie has been pretty good but 5 backrowers in the team seems way too excessive.

will be interesting to see how the minutes are shared. my biggest fear with lowrie+glenn on the bench is thaiday playing some minutes at prop and just phil NO NO NO NO NO gould that one

I know what you mean about players who don't play reserve grade but you have to keep in mind the Broncos didn't recruit Lowrie. He secured a release from the Warriors to move to Brisbane for family reasons without us having shown an interest. If we didn't sign him he'd be playing QLD Cup anyway.

Thaiday should just have the 12 tattooed onto his back he is not going back to Prop again, we all hope.

The good thing about lowrie is he is like parker just not as exceptional. I beleive they will use him in the middle as a prop/2nd lock kind of role, get him defending up the middle with the odd run.

he is a good player, starting lock in 3 of his previous clubs (spent some time in the front row at storm as well)

True Lowrie was handed to us on a silver platter but it truely is a gift at that. He will tackle all day and bring mongral to our forward pack, so will Kennedy im truely excited about it. I believe if he didnt sign with us some team would of worked out a way to get him to play for them. Warriors were very understanding about it because they just lost both of their locks it was very good of them

So he's got some playmaking chops. Okay cool. So why isn't he lining up next to Nikorima in the halves next weekend?

I get what you're all saying and I'm not outright disagreeing with any of you. I just think considering how we've been going recently, we really shouldn't leave any option off the table at this point.

Because Macca is the hooker and not a half? I don't understand this response at all.

As noisetheory pointed out, the most likely role for our third bench forward is to play limited minutes ~20 through the middle. For me that kind of role is tailor made for guys like Hala/Molo who are 18 and 19kg bigger than Lowrie (96kg). If a backrower gets injured or suspended (decent chance) he's probably straight into the side but I can't see him playing the role of limited minutes wrecking ball. For the record Lowrie has only played 1 game at prop, back in 2011.

Officially yes, late changes just before a game after been named at lock, a few times.

I see what your saying but like I said I bet he's got a spot in the 17 is experience and defence is what we need in our forward pack.

Stagg played in the middle coming off the bench last year ahead of our other front row contenders so why would they get the nod ahead of a better player in lowrie this time?

Molo is awesome but he's going to qld cup first

I reckon he could play in the centres just like Stagg, blinding acceleration and pace :stoned:

The bench composition was different when Stagg played last year. Bigger minutes were available due to injuries and Kennedy not being here.

Excellent point we are better off this year but I bet he gets a spot in the 17 come round 1 just know that's what hook is thinking (don't know if that's a good thing)

I think it's pretty good that this discussion is even happening. Have people ever had a chance to have these conversations with the lack of depth we've had over the past couple of years?

Now we don't know even know what the bench or back line is going to be like.

It's either gonna be 14. Granville or 14. Lowrie

If 6,7,9 or 1 go down, it would be handy to have Granville over a second rower filling in in those positions.

Also, to my mind Macca's performances have deteriorated in the past years significantly as he fatigues. And I don't think he is that much of an organiser that we miss his presence when off the field. Hunt usually covered that nicely.

Surely then, there is no real benefit (but a lot to be lost) by making him play 80 so we can give our already burgeoning second row stocks (each who can easily play 80, in a less importantly bash and tackle role) less minutes.

I also think Granville can trouble around the ruck when forwards are tired.
