I think I've had an epiphany. I get why the refs don't call offside most of the time. It means that they can use it when they want to do square ups. They know sides are almost always offside, so whenever they feel they aren't at their quota / wanna square up a game - out inside ten comes and even if the side is not offside, no one is allowed to challenge in the moment and given most teams live offside, no coach will challenge it. It is perfect for game manipulation and boy is it used when desired.

It's hilarious because there's hands on the ball in 99% of tackles nowadays, but old mate Ziggy picks the one tackle with no hands on the ball to try and give Souths the game
