So with this downtown rule, is it if anyone is in front of the ruck when the ball is kicked, it’s an automatic penalty regardless of whether they are chasing or otherwise?

I just saw a situation in this game where a decoy runner (a genuine chance of getting the ball other than the fact it was the last), ran past the ruck on the right and then half gave himself up and started running back.

Is this another ill thought out rule change?

I think the bunker has been calling it... so it's going to be missed half the time and then pop up in critical times.

But as long as they stop the situations where the entire team was past the ptb on a kick chase and it forces kick chases to be more inline with the kicker then it will be doing it's job.

Personally I'd be running with Drinkwater at #6, Dearden at #7 and young Chester at FB, too. Townsend offers zero threat these days. They've got some issues that's for sure, some good young talent coming through though.
