From memory, aren't we just matching the Bulldogs salary for Barba for this season / next season? 350k comes to mind.

Yep, that's how third-parties work. The author makes a big jump when he claims that poorer clubs can't use TPAs, but never really explains why.

I think the proper way to fix the salary cap is to have all payments in the cap, but also improve discounts for one club players and juniors. There should be an emphasis on developing instead of recruiting.

Comes down to connections and resources, Politis has a lot of pull as does Crowe, Broncs have a huge region to draw from plus guaranteed exposure, not sure where dogs gets theirs though. Funny quote in that article

"There is nothing stopping a player manager at a so called poor club in Sydney arranging a TPA with say a Brisbane-based company," a NRL source said.

The NRL obviously has no idea how parochial Qlders are.

There was an article about juniors the other day, the Tigers, Dragons and Raiders appear to be pulling together to demand some sort of reward for juniors and are threatening to withdraw from junior development due to clubs relying on buying instead of developing, hopefully they get a few other clubs to join in like the Broncos and Panthers

found it

In total agreeance with this although I would say Broncos keep more than their fair share of juniors developed where it is harder for these other clubs to do so because in most cases they do not have to shift house

GE actually asked someone at the NRL about concessions for juniors and their response, "wouldn't be fair on clubs like the Roosters who don't have large areas to draw upon". Like they were oblivious to the fact clubs like Canberra go outside their own area for development, there's no reason the Roosters can't do the same, it would be beneficial to rugby league as a whole if all clubs put the same money and effort some clubs do, best way to grow the sport and face the challenges from AFL and soccer.

What a piss-weak excuse. "Clubs like the Roosters". As far as I know the Roosters are the ONLY club that have the excuse of poor territorial coverage, but like you said it doesn't stop them recruiting or affiliating from elsewhere. It may be an independent commission but it's obvious who still pulls the strings.

What, so clubs like us, the raiders and penrith etc. should keep developing talent just for arseholes like the storm and roosters to draft them out? **** off
There was mention of the NRL taking control of developing players but FMD with how badly they run league can you imagine how crap the juniors would be, also what happens with the u16s, u18s and u20s if say Brisbane juniors are developed by the NRL not the Broncos, who do they play for in those comps?

Totally agree with all that. The NRL can't even handle the shit they are trying to do now, the shouldnt even be thinking about taking on junior development

Sorry to hear about Edrick Lee @Bushman . A big loss for your team, and an emerging origin contender ruled out of this year's series.

Edrick Lee out for the season - Raiders

Raiders winger Edrick Lee has been ruled out for the season with a foot injury and will undergo surgery on Friday to repair ligament damage.

Lee suffered a Lisfranc injury to his foot in the loss to the Titans on Sunday night, with specialists deciding surgery was the only way to repair the damage. The recovery period means he will miss the remainder of the 2014 season.

Raiders Coach Ricky Stuart said it’s a shattering injury for Lee who was in great form for the Raiders in the early rounds of the season and said the club would make sure he gets the best rehabilitation during the recovery period.

“Edrick is a real strike weapon for us out wide and he’s going to be sorely missed for the remainder of the year,” Stuart said. “He is a young player on the rise and we’ll make sure he gets the best rehabilitation after his surgery and we know he’ll be back bigger and better for us next year.”

Stuart said the injury to Lee gives some other players an opportunity to step up in his absence and said he is confident in the depth in the squad.

“Bill Tupou gets an opportunity to move onto the wing with Edrick out for the year and he’s been in good form for the Mounties as have a number of players across our feeder and NYC teams,” Stuart said.

This. Looked so innocuous when he came off.

Yep huge loss for us hes one player who can find the try line, great target for bombs and has a good combo with Croker, he's had a bad run with injuries which is delaying his development.

He's been really unlucky the last 2 years. Missed half a season (I think) last year, and pretty much this entire year too. It's a shame, because he has the potential to be a long term QLD winger too, and this is delaying his development.

Souths will never win a premiership until they completely disconnect themselves from the glory days of the club.
