Just read a zero tackle article about gaming the 6 again rule, well the usual suspects are guilty BUT the biggest thing I took out of it and was completely shocked to see it actually published by someone to the public was that south Sydney have had more second half penalties (26) then the broncos have had in total first and second half (24) well well FUCKING well! Penalty broncos eh fellas. We’re dead last in penalties given if you were wondering.

Well all that says is clearly we're the most ill-disciplined team in the comp, and since we've played all the best teams who are also clearly the most disciplined, waffle obscure #superleague waffle #Brisbane2 bullshit excuse.

I covered this in some detail last year. Basically going back a decade or so we've consistently been in the bottom four sides for penalties awarded and we've run last more than anyone else during that period.

It's this magical phenomenon where apparently every club, every week just happens to miraculously turn up on their best behaviour when they play the Broncos. It really is uncanny.

After listening to Trent Robinson tonight I’ve come to the conclusion that he should be Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs, NRL chairman & CEO, Australian Test cricket captain…and he should also come and coach the Broncos 🙏

He certainly makes the rules for modern day rugby league.

That's the stats I was after. Since the introduction of the 6 again, the competition has been the worst it's been since at least 2012.

We've went from about 1/6.5 games being a trashing to just under 1 in 3.

The blowout scorelines are a major turnoff.

Nothing wrong with having a slower game with more rests, I mean that hasn't ever stopped people supporting Rugby Union.

No game is perfect but NRL seems to be struggling to deal with modern athletes, ACLs and concussions etc, not sure what the answer is.. Would start by scrapping the 6 again rule, even if the Broncos benefitted from it.

Here's the current Broncos 2022 squad.

$6.3 Million

That leaves roughly $3 Million left to spend which roughly comes to $215,000 on average
Rhys Kennedy 100k? No. Don't believe that. Any club in the NRL would give him more than that. That's not even as much as RoleyPoley Sandow makes for driving a truck.

I'll expand on this a bit

You need to budget for a 9.7 million cap for next year. Yes it's technically 9.1m but all players have taken a 6% cut, so as a ratio, a 700k contract is still the same as before, just the player is getting 6% less. So for the sake of nice numbers, I'll be calculating at 9.7m. So if Staggs is on 700k, he'd be on 658 next year then (should) be up to 700k from 2023 onwards.

Assuming we sign Dufty, Gagai, Kurt Mann, Capewell and Reynolds our cap would look like this.

1. Matthew Dufty ($500,000)
2. Corey Oates ($300,000)* (200k Veterans player allowance)
3. Herbie Farnworth ($180,000)
4. Dane Gagai ($450,000)
5. Jamyne Isaako ($280,000) (20k car allowance - you can have up to 5 of these up to 100k)
6. Kotoni Staggs ($700,000)
7. Adam Reynolds ($700,000)
8. Matt Lodge ($700,000)
9. Jake Turpin ($180,000)* (20k car allowance)
10. Payne Haas ($500,000)
11. Luke Capewell ($500,000)
12. Tevita Pangai Jr ($600,000)
13. Patrick Carrigan ($380,000) (20k car allowance)

14. Kurt Mann ($300,000)
15. Tom Flegler ($500,000)
16. Ethan Bullemor ($200,000)
17. Jordan Riki ($280,000) (20k car allowance)

18. Cory Paix ($200,000)
19. Rhys Kennedy ($120,000) (minimum wage is 120k in 2022 for players 1-26)
20. Brendan Piakura ($380,000) (20k car allowance)
21. Brodie Croft ($500,000)
22. ($460,000)
23. ($120,000)
24. ($120,000)
25. ($120,000)
26. ($120,000)
27. ($77,500) (players 27-30 on minimum wage)
28. ($77,500)
29. ($77,500)
30. ($77,500)

Total: $9.24M leaving us with 460K for another decent player? Josh Hodgson at a stretch? No idea what kind of wage he's on but he's past peak earning capacity. Or it could be spread out across a couple of youngsters.

Of course I could dive deeper and say we had about 500k spare this year and we use that to pay a couple of players forward, so we could even still have another million to play with.

If I remove all my hypothetical signings and any "forward payments", we would have somewhere around 2.9M to spend next year on 5 new players assuming players 23-30 are on minimum wage.
You really think a NRL standard prop playing 40 minutes a match AND with very good stats is going to earn 120k in 2022?😮😮😮😮

Really????

And before you I covered this in some detail for the period beginning 1988 onwards. We have always been in the bottom 8 and generally the bottom 3 . That's over 32+ years.

I think that is what he is already signed on for next year. I could be wrong.
With the percentage reduction after COVID it's probably even less.

You're correct in saying he has one more year to go though.

He's already signed for 2022, I'd guess at minimum wage given he signed while in reserves. His next contract will be somewhere between 200-400k depending how he's playing this time next year.

Minimum wage earners did not have a percentage reduction so I accounted for that.
