NRL Player Movement and Rumours 2016

re: NRL Movements and Rumours - 2016

St George offered up Jake Marketo as a player swap for Sims and it was reject.
What fucking planet are they on? No way would the knights give up Sims for a way lesser player.

As in.. Tariq Sims?

Don't see the issue with that, Knights aren't competing this year and Sims is already going to the Dragons next year, I don't see why they'd reject that offer, Marketo isn't awful, if they wait until the end of the season they won't get anyone in return for him.

Why would they bother?
Surely they would want a quality forward if they let him go this year. Why switch him with Marketo when the knights actually need some decent forwards and now have the cap room to chase some

re: NRL Movements and Rumours - 2016

Marketo is a dime a dozen backrow with no upside what-so-ever. He doesn't offer the Knights anything and Newcastle are better off holding onto Tariq for the time being and searching for a different option. The only fair trade here would be Joel Thompson and I doubt that would be easy to organise. Other than that, Host and Leilua are decent prospects but the Knights have enough young guns in their side. The Dragons really don't have anybody of value.

Re: NRL Movements and Rumours - 2016

They are trying to get both Will Matthews and Marketo apparently.

both utter dog shit. The Knights don't seem to know what to do in regards to building a team.

Bit harsh. Matthews is a strong defensive player. Has a good shot in him.

He punches above his weight in defence, sure. Granted that's one more string to his bow than Marketo, but what else has he got?

I understand we're talking about Newcastle, but neither player has much to offer. Not even much in the way is experience, which is the only quality they'd bring over the current roster.

Probably better saving the cap space for next year, unless they're open to one year deals as a stop gap solution.

Re: NRL Movements and Rumours - 2016

God help whichever club signs that dickhead David Andjelic from NRL Rookie, guys got an ego to rival Farah.
Word around Sydney is he's been blabbing to all his mates about having been told he's won it when it's not even been announced yet.
Perhaps 1910 or Talanoa might know any more?

Newcastle don't really have that strong defensive player in their team though. I can see the appeal. Not saying it's worth Tariq Sims, but if they are losing him they may as well get something for it.

The other thing is Tariq Sims' salary is definitely more than Mathews/Marketo. Maybe that's what they need to do so they can offload all of Sims' salary? That actually does help them next year.

weren't Canberra signing the winner?

Re: NRL Movements and Rumours - 2016

Well if there was any doubt about Tamou's move to the Panthers, there isn't now.

He has confirmed he will be leaving.

Handy acquisition, Penrith are amassing quite the roster. Solid pack, dynamic back line. They'll be hoping their young halves kick in though, that's the only issue.

Plus I can't see them going too far with Capn Hook at the helm...

I'm liking peachey in the centres. Considering their injury list (two international centres out) and young guns (Jennings brothers, Dylan Edwards, versatile Tyrone may, watene zelezniak), they have an embarrassment of riches in their outside backs. A possible long term spine of moylan, Martin and cleary is damn enviable too.

Great forward depth plus incoming tamou and grevsmuhl to boot.

I'll forever view yeo as a poor man's Corey oates though

Agree with all your points except this.

Yeo is a long way short of being a poor man's Oates.

He's the back row equivalent of Maranta. Reasonably dependable but wholly unremarkable.

Re: NRL Movements and Rumours - 2016

Knights are chasing Greg Bird by the sounds of it. They have identified him as the man to rebuild the club.

I think one of the first things they need to do is offload Mullen. The guy has played 34 games in the past 3 seasons and he has not lived up to the hype that surrounded him when he first came onto the scene.

And then when you realised that they pay him 600k a season, you think they would be better served letting him go along with Uate who is on 550k
