NRL Player Movements and Rumours 2015

The contract wasn't registered with the NRL.

The Eels have not attempted to register the deal with the NRL after officials discovered it would put the club significantly over the salary cap and believe the deal is therefore not legally binding.

However, Levick will serve legal papers on Parramatta on Monday and told Fairfax Media: "The fact is it's a valid and enforceable contract".

It appears that the SMH don't to accurate research before printing an article

This article lists their top 10 players that are in the market at the end of the 2016.

However they have listed Milford as number 1... The only problem is he isn't off contract at the end of 2016 ... His manager has already confirmed that he has extended his contract with us until the end of 2017

Also, I thought the November 1 thingy was scrapped in favor of the June one (the right of reply by the incumbent), which has now also been scrapped, thanks DCE. You can negotiate at any time, but there's now the cooling off period.

I think that clubs aren't supposed to start negotiations with players until nov 1 heading in to the final year of a players contract.

It was only the round 13 rule that got scrapped in favour if a 10 day cooling off period.

That rule never existed, apparently.

Clubs can negotiate with players whenever they want.

It did exist, but was scraped in 2010. There is no limitation on when a player can be approached, although it makes no sense to do that with more than a year contract left to go.

Present rule is I believe, that you can sign a new contract with a different team in the last year of the current contract, or earlier if you get a release from your team.
New contracts have a cooling period of... (3 weeks?).

Cooling off period is 10 days. Clubs are also prohibited from announcing a new signing until the cooling off period has lapsed

That's what I remember too, so the idea is from now on, any announced signing is final with no ability to back out. It's a huge improvement over the round 13 backflip fiasco.

Parramatta has reportedly told Hopoate that if he wants to stay at the club, it will be for only 200k, that is despite him actually signing a contract worth hundreds of thousands more.

They have also reportedly told him that if he chooses to play with another club next year, he will receive no compensation or will pay nothing towards his contract.

not surprisingly he will continue with his legal action against the club ... especially as he turned down several lucrative offers to stay with the Eels.

I would love to see the Eels lawyers try to tell the courts that their CEO was acting beyond the scope of his powers by negotiating contracts with players. no way they will be able to argue that with a straight face.

Parramatta offer William Hopoate 'unders' to stay an Eel

I'd take him on about 200k to play on the wing (with Parra making up the rest).

EDIT: This smells like a rorters signing (they'll pull a Fergo and get him for minimum wage). You heard it here first.

Jeff Lima to the Raiders apparently according to Fairfax.

Have you seen their front row stocks?

I have, I still don't think any team benefits from
Jeff Lima. He was trash 3 years ago, I can't imagine time has helped.

Lima's numbers were decent in 2013 (averaged over a 100m and 20 tackles) and the Raiders are skinny upfront. Their only noted front row forward is Paul Vaughan, a talented player, but arguably a more effective backrow than prop forward.

Lima wouldn't be asking for a lot and his experience will be invaluable for the likes of Pangai Jr and Bateman.
