Coates, Hughes signed to 2026
Grant signed to 2025

Munster going to Dolphins for sure now

And of course:

Coates has injured his hamstring that one time, so extension at 300k.
Hughes wears head gear, so clearly at 500k
Grant has missed a couple of games, so 400k and reducing on subsequent years.

I don’t get why they’re parading Coates around like he’s as big a signing as Grant lmao.

Apparently Grant is on 1m a year, Hughes on 900k a year.

He’s very marketable and an origin player. He’s also the closest to a marque signing the storm have made in about a decade.

Dolphins miss out yet again.

It's not looking good for them. It's very important for them that they are competitive from the start, and without a marquee signing, that's going to be difficult.

They need to throw everything at Munster. Forget Ponga, the halves are more important.

They need to throw everything at BOTH.

I'm not convinced they do. I do like Ponga, but a bit like Grant, he seems to miss a lot of games. Munster i think would be about the best they could sign if they want a marquee player, but i'm still fairly sure Wayne isnt going to want one just for the hell of it.

What they need for 2023 is a balanced side. If that means no real superstar then thats fine imo. Wayne has been around the game long enough to know that certain players will become disgruntled or fall out of favour and i think there will be some decent pick ups there for them.

They are going to be competetive, they arent going to be top 6 challenging though. Even Munster though really isnt going to help them out as he wont end up there until 2024. They just need to be smart with whats available.

Wouldn’t be so sure. Wayne has a gift for making average teams good. If he even has a reasonable squad he could push the 6 with them. The hard part would be keeping an average team playing above their skill level for more than 1 season but if he gets a few stars in year 2 they could do anything.

The real rush is establishing an actual top 8 team before Wayne moves on.

I've always said i think their best recruitment will be for 2024. There are just more talented players in more key positions around for them to choose from. In 2023 their pack will match it with anyone i reckon. At the moment, its their spine thats lacking. Hopefully we will see them get some players who will just do their jobs without being spectacular.

Yeah, pretty disappointing the NRL didn’t give them 2 years notice so they could sign players over 2 seasons rather than after the November contract date a year out.

Knowing Wayne, I can see them getting an undervalued journeyman #7, IF they can land either Munster or Ponga. That was the idea behind 2006 Broncos push with Shane Perry doing the simple but important job of organising the team, which allowed DLock to do his thing.

Also, with Lodge knocking back Warriors extension it seems fairly likely that he will follow his father-in-law to the Dolphins.
