NRL Player Movements & Rumours

His manager got him about 5m in wages, he did a great job. With careers so short, always take a mega offer if you get it.

If he has any brains he'd be set for life and never have to work again.
If he's a moron and blew it all, that's his fault.
💯 and I dare say that any professional manager would have the ability and or contacts to help their clients manage their money and make it work for them. But again, if a player doesn’t have the smarts, discipline or curiosity to ask for help on something as fundamental as that, it’s on the player

And that’s why a percentage should always be forced into a trust so if a player was dumb, it’s there at the end.

10% of salary forced into a you cannot touch fund that’s released when you retire from the sport

Bellamy being a hypocritical sook

Remember thsh were trying to get T. Sims to come this year as of like last week.

"He’s a really important part of our team and a very popular part of our team, so he’s very valuable to us,” Bellamy told The Age. “We’d love him to stay, but he has to make his own decision. We will reinforce this, and I will get support for this from higher up in the club, but it doesn’t matter where he goes he won’t be leaving at the end of this year. “He’s got a contract for next year and the club will hold him to that.” “There used to be a rule that you are not supposed to talk to people who have more than 12 months to go on their contract. But I’m not sure if it is there any more, although I think it is,” Bellamy “Cameron is here for this year and next year, but it is what is. We want to keep him and we will do what we can to keep him.”

Also wanted Coates early and was pushing the mental health card ... the guy is scum

Why can't the players do this themselves? Why should it be someone else's responsibility?

Spot on

The man bends (or breaks) every rule in the book to gain an advantage, then has a sooky whinge when anyone does something he doesn't like.
He is a cancer to the sport I love and I've never despised anyone in the game like I do him.

In fairness to Craig, Melbourne were entitled to offer Coates & Sims deals since they were off-contract. Munster isn't off contract until November 1st so I think he's entitled to feel like this situation has gone a step too far.

As far as the Coates situation, I thought it was Tripp who tried to play the mental health card after Brisbane refused to release Coates despite dropping him from the team?

Um, because clubs like the Broncos and Dragons are irrelevant to Bellamy. The Storm are way more important than us, so they should be able to pillage our players if it helps them.

Aka superannuation.
Except you can’t touch that until you’re 65 and by the time these guys are 64 laws will have changed to make that 70 anyway

The thing is the trust funds you described are set up by adults for children. I would go apeshit if as an adult my employer tried to keep funds from me until I retired, it really isn’t a feasible scenario. It would be a horrible look for any organisation. It’s like “hey look at these great guys that play our game, so trustworthy we need to keep their piggy bank on the top shelf where they can’t reach it until they’re old enough”

That's true, a better way (and maybe this is done) is to educate them.

Hey guys, you are liable to make a crazy amount of money in a really short time, and you never know when that's going to end, so the best thing to do is have 2 bank accounts and have your pay 80% in one of them and 20% in the other that you don't touch. That way you'll have something to fall back on.

If they choose to not do it, well, there's no cure for stupid is there?

Bellamy is a bit of a hypocrite, as recently mentioned he wanted Tariq Sims there ASAP however when asked about Brandon Smith last year he said he would only release him if they were to find a suitable replacement.

As for Ash Taylor, looks like a genius now as he was getting 1m a year but every NRL fan who knows anything would know he was never worth that much, another case of a club throwing the bank at a player before he is able to even really develop into a consistent NRL player. David Fifita isn't far off that category either.

Makes you wonder who the Titans will next ruin.

Not that I think he would have amounted to much in another environment but it looks like they are well on their way to ruining Toby Sexton.
