NRL Player Movements & Rumours

That is dodgy as ****.

Pay them out of their stake... and I'm sure he would pay them out at the valued price and not at an over inflated rate... or maybe if the player was shit he would buy them out at a shit price.

Wonder what they do if they decide to give his partner or his parents the share in the pub as part of the deal? Still dodgy, but i'm not sure the NRL could do anything about it.

Thats a pandoras box moment.

Every deal from here on out will be made to close family.

If the NRL allow this to happen they may as well just abolish the salary cap as it will be meaningless.

The Bulldogs major sponsor is arguing that the Bulldogs be permitted to break every single TPA rule that the NRL has because the Bulldogs are a bottom club and have trouble attracting players.

the problem with his argument is that if they allow the Bulldogs to do it, they would have to allow all clubs to do it. I have no doubt we could find several sponsors or supporters to help us in the same way. we could steal Tino from them, then retain Haas with similar deals.

I did laugh at the following line from Slothfield: "whether fans from rival clubs think it’s an unfair enticement remains to be seen."

If we tried this he'd spend every day for the next month calling us cheats on the back page of his paper

anyway this is what Laundy said:

“It’s harder for clubs lower on the table like Canterbury and the Wests Tigers in recruitment,” he said.

“Some players will take less to try to win a competition at the stronger teams.

“That’s what we’re up against and that’s why I’m helping out.

“We’ve got to lure them in with a deal that no-one else can do.”

“You don’t want young players wasting their money on flash cars,” Laundy said.

“Their lives are back to front. Instead of doing a course and making good money in five years, footballers earn big money from the start.

“But what do they do with it? Some of them are so young.”

“If something was to go wrong, I’ve got enough money to guarantee them their money back,” he said.

“If they want out at the end to get married, to buy a house, I’ll buy them out.

“I’m very determined to make this work and help out Canterbury.”

Tino's agent Simon Mammino says:

“Clubs are reaching out but we’re leaving it alone until after Origin,” Mammino said.

“There was anger and emotion at first. Then he cooled down and we’ve got three months to solve it. “He’s a leader and a humble man who won’t play it out in the media.”

“Tino’s preference is to stay at the titans,” Mammino said, “He was close to Justin but he is also very close with his teammates. He wants to win a comp with this group. To move away from family would be a big call for him although it doesn’t mean he won’t go.”
Broncos were spooners... imagine them openly saying this shit. It would have been open slather for the "media".

The NRL have blocked the Laundy offer for Tino.

They aren't allowing it. Laundy spoke a bit too much in the media and gave a bit too many details regarding the deal. The fact that Laundy came out and said he'll give him this much and he'll guarantee his money back, that became a salary cap enticement and the NRL didn't like that.

The Storm one went through because there were details that were different, such as Tripp not guaranteeing the players their money back. They went into the investment opportunities knowing they could lose money. Whether Tripp made a private guarantee, who knows? I'm sure a lot of clubs have done that.

Offering investments isn't against the rules. There's all sorts of ways TPA's can be made. It's that guaranteeing of the money that becomes the sticking point. When there's no risk and all upside, that becomes enticing.

I really hate all this loophole bullshit that rich ***** pull. I get the whole hustle side of it, but it's just dodgy.

This is the big issue for me. Despite this being quite obvious and a universally accepted thing, I honestly have no faith at all the NRL would think this way. They do not believe in equity, fairness or precedents.

Blake Taaffe has been photographed meeting with Gould and the Bulldogs recruitment manager Peter Sharp.

off contract at season's end, Taaffe would be the best Bulldogs signing in years

Lodge to Manly haha.

according to Brent Read, Penn and Manly CEO Tony Mestrov conducted their own background research into Lodge to ensure he wouldn’t be a disruption to the side.

I guess they forgot to contact Lodge's last 3 clubs to find out why they all wanted to pay him big money to piss off.

Taaffe would be a good signing for the Bulldogs.

If they can sign a 6 that appreciates a good chicken sandwich, they could have a gun centre pairing in Crichton and Burton.

Slothfield fires back at Gould ... says Gould is pissed that the Bulldogs attempts to rort the cap were exposed.

This is in response to Gould's claim that the whole story was fabricated to destabilise the Bulldogs and Laundy was angry about the article.

I actually don't think the Lodge signing is that bad. Manly are desperate for middles, Lodge can work in any rotation and as long as they're not paying him the big dollars like the Broncos and Warriors were it's a decent fit.

I can't remember where I heard it, but apparantly the fall-out at the Roosters had less to do with Lodge and more to do with Moses. The Roosters were already very anti-Moses after they were led astray with Mitch, they eventually made peace but something happened recently with a contracted player and Lodge was collateral.

Lodge also isn't playing as well as he initially did at Bondi where he was a revelation for the team and he's due a pay-day. He's still collecting his Warriors/Broncos money but I think that dries up next year, so he can't play on his minimum salary deal. Especially after JWH decided to go around another year.

It's just the fact that it's Seibold again, turning to Lodge who happens to be another Moses client. Their squad is in a really vulnerable place and it's unclear to see their path to success. DCE is close to retirement, Turbo always seems to be injured and Schuster has shown nothing to suggest he's a future leader of the club. Kaeo Weekes who was supposed to be one of their best and brightest just hasn't worked out at first grade despite ample opportunities. The way he was brought in as a 14, was eerily similar to another highly talented but flawed junior prospect at another club Seibold coached at...

None of their other signings actually improve the roster and it appears their juniors are all abandoning ship.
