NRL Players and family members in hot water

Naden is apparently not entirely out of the woods yet ...

the integrity unit is now investigating whether Naden broke the NRL COVID bubble requirements in order to purchase the cocaine

EDIT:
p.s. you watch the NRL sweep this under the carpet ... TPJ gets a hair cut, 3 months suspension unpaid; Naden gets illegal drugs, backdated 3 months suspension, nothing to see here

Backdated suspensions with no actual time served is my favourite NRL innovation I think. It's genius. They should have went really hard and given him a backdated 2 year suspension starting from 2018.

I'm with you mate. I never got into trouble because I knew right from wrong. Anybody making excuses for these twits 'because they are young' or 'what 20yo doesn't get in strife?' are way off the mark.
I haven't read any posts making excuses for Fifita but there's a few that seem to understand that immature brains make for poor judgement. There's even a few that show understanding! Good thing it's highly educated, experienced and mature people who have to adjudicate on such things. Imagine a world with 22 year old supreme court judges🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Not sure how long before, but this article said it was in the preparation for the Grand final

At the risk of starting up another drug taking war debate on here, whether or not people are overly bothered about anyone taking cocaine or not is irrelevant. Its an illegal substance, its banned and he would have something written into his contract prohibiting him from taking it while he is under contract. He knew the rules, and he broke them. Should be getting a lot more than a backdated month.

WADA only allow a month if it’s not taken to enhance performance and not taken in competition- game day.

NRL can’t do anything.

I think its a grey area tbh to say Cocaine isnt performance enhancing. If its taken to help cope with the pressure for example, then thats helping a player perform imo if he needs it.

Bit of a stretch I think.

So are painkillers. So is Panadol if you have a headache.

Its not a stretch at all. If any player needs something illegal to cope with pressure for example he is enhancing his performance illegally ( and i dont know if thats why Naden for example took cocaine ). And yep, i take Tommy's point about Panadol and painkillers, but the people that make the rules dont consider them illegal to take. They arent an illegal drug full stop. You are allowed to take them if you have a headache. You arent breaking any rules by taking Panadol. Some drugs you can use, others you cant. Find something that works and isnt illegal if you need it.

People can dress it up, make excuses and justify drug use for whatever reason, but there is no arguing with the facts and the law even if you dont agree with it. Cocaine is an illegal drug. Its really that simple. I dont understand why people have such a problem with it. Personally, i couldnt care less what people take, but if they get caught they know the consequences. I'd say if Naden wasnt a decent player the Panthers would probably use this to terminate his contract as no NRL player would have a contract that doesnt prohibit taking illegal drugs.

I think by that logic, alcohol is performance enhancing for footy players. Which it's not. I agree with your overall point though.

There is a distinction between enabling and enhancing.

There are probably plenty of things that are performance enhancing, but they arent all illegal i guess.
