NRL Players and family members in hot water

boiling water one. About 5 bucks from the chemist.

I never ever wore a mouthguard playing any sport, my parents would just sign the waiver form. I found it too annoying to wear them

Soccer, Rugby and Hockey, had to wear one for all three.

School rules, otherwise I didn't get to play.

I don't know what that political agenda has to do with anything really. But I'm not getting into how we as a nation can't STFU and move forward together.

What are your thoughts on the mouthguard? Do you think they should be forced to have them in their mouth, or should it be on the player?

"This will protect you from 95% of teeth injuries. Wear this"

"No"

"OK"

Thank god for mouth-guards.

I still remember the time the coach smacked me with his fore-arm. We were just having a muck-around game to finish a training session off. Anyways there I am carting the ball up, I get hit low in a great tackle, lurch forward and WACK. Now, I had just gotten braces about two months prior so they absolutely shreded the bottom and blood was pouring everywhere. If I didn't have a mouth-guard (a professionally fitted one, my folks took really good care of me) I reckon I would have lost a few teeth.

I jokingly thought it was a passive aggressive way to fix my diet up (I truly was BIG Pete back then) but he seemed worse for wear than I was. The guilt made him feel sick to his stomach and if nothing else I just wanted to use it as an opportunity to shake it off and show how tough (stupid) I was.

As they say, the thoroughbred horse will run itself into the ground, somebody has to pull the reigns.

While I'm reminiscing about school footy and injuries, I remember there was this one year where it seemed like every second game I was getting cut open. Usually it wouldn't mean anything, you'd get a bandage on it and play on but the policy was that if you bled you were out. So I'd split head open through a head clash, have my nose busted with a head high, suffer a cut from a stray stud etc. It was torture, especially if it happened minutes into the match or a crucial point in the game.

We had to have our mouth guard when I was playing junior Rugby.

No exceptions

Kids I have no objections to mandatory to protect them
but once they turn 18 they are old enough to make their own decisions and live with the consequences

I was twice the player without a mouthguard. The fuckers always felt too big and I had trouble breathing. Being a centre I was a bit out of the spotlight and used to take it out and tuck it under the tongue of my shoe. Tasted like shit.

I went to a private school though and played Union for the school on Saturdays and League on Sundays. I used to be fit...

The West Tigers have launched an investigation into the player at the centre of an explicit video scandal.
On Tuesday evening it emerged that a lewd video, allegedly of a Wests Tigers’ National Youth Championship player, had appeared on blogging site Tumblr, according to sportingnews.com.
The player allegedly exposed himself during the video while standing in front of West Tigers sponsor logos.

Brisbane a chance to host NRL grand final

“Wests Tigers have been made aware of an incident involving a Holden Cup squad member,” the club said in a statement.
“The club is currently investigating the incident internally with those involved to ensure the matter is dealt with correctly.
“The club will make no further comment at this time.”
No information has been released about the identity of the player in question.
The New Daily contacted the Wests Tigers for more information but was instead referred to its statement.
It isn’t the first time that an NRL player has been caught up in a scandal of a lewd nature.

Only recently, controversy erupted when a video of Mitchell Pearce behaving inappropriately with a dog was leaked to the media.
Pearce was fined $125,000 and suspended for eight matches following the incident that occurred on Australia Day 2016.
Previous to this, Australian representative Todd Carney brought controversy to the NRL following a series of misdemeanors.
His final sacking from the NRL occurred in June 2014 when a photo of Carney urinating into his own mouth surfaced.
It was the third time he had been sacked by a club for poor behaviour.
At the end of the 2010 season Canberra Raiders player Joel Monaghan requested he be released from his contract when a photo of him simulating a sexual act with a dog became public.
When he was appointed in March 2016, NRL CEO Todd Greenberg told the ABC he was determined to address the on-field and off-field controversies that had plagued the game.
“There are always going to be issues in this game. I have been around long enough to know that we will be dealing with issues throughout,” Mr Greenberg said.
“The fans want to know that we’re handling those issues appropriately.
“They won’t judge you on the issue itself but they will judge you on how you handle it.”
