NRL Players and family members in hot water

Anyone hear about this? They are talking about it over on zero tackle. Cam Smith apparently saw Wade Graham lose his mouthguard so he picked it up and hid it from him in his sock. Then later he gave him a whack across the mouth.

Cameron Smith is a bit of grub, but in all honesty I've been waiting years for someone to wack Wade Graham, so I'm not at all upset...

I don't know why that made me laugh. Definitely a grub act. But got to give him credit for his ingenuity.

I read somewhere this arvo that somebody put two and two together and got six. The mouthguard was Dale Finucane's apparently. This is not confirmed though.

I saw that mouthgard fly and saw Smith pick it up (watching the game in the NRL app on my phone - so I am sure it was widely seen by people watching on their big screen tvs). I couldn't quite tell watching live but it did seem to go forward from a Storm player. I tried to see who was going to give it back to but the play moved out to the wing and initially Smith was following the play.
When Smith hit Graham high the commentators kept going on about who would not wear a mouthguard so I started to wonder where that mouthguard really came from.

If it was Grahams mouth guard, I daresay it will come out considering the attention it's been getting. Or if it was a storm players for that matter

It was more than likely Graham's. Had it in his hand going in for a tackle and lost it when Smith picked it up. I don't know if it is fair to say that Smith deliberately gave him a slap on the chops though. It would have been such a niggle in Graham's head taking hit-ups after that though,

Yeah looks like Cameron Smith was being his usual grub self in Cronulla last night ... what a lunatic disgrace (photos pinched from the 'Support Cameron Smith Facebook page)

What an A-hole. Be up at the tribunal for touching charges soon enough.

What's the rules on mouth guards. Anyone not wearing them should be punished.

Going straight for that kid's dummy. COVER YOUR TEETH LITTLE MAN!

Why the **** isn't it a rule that they have to wear mouth guards?

They don't have to wear shoulder/torso padding or headgear, so I can't see them (NRL) worrying about their teeth.

I'd say that would be a player's decision and responsibility. Same with corrective cosmetic surgery post-football. I assume that's at the player's cost. Those pro mouth-guards must cost a mint, especially when customised. That's why it was worth picking up by Cam for his teammate.

I don't think it should be up to them. They should be made to wear the stupid things. It's become blatantly obvious that the NRL needs to protecting these meat heads from themselves. Mouthguards are drummed into you from an early age, I see no reason. It's not like they can't afford to go and get a mouthguard, yeah, expensive, but any good health insurance, which I'm 99% positive they all have, pretty much pays for a mouthguard each year.

Not an off the self and boiling water it, but a proper moulded one. At least they did when I was working in the industry.

Totally agree Nashy, it's basic duty of care stuff. It would probably be something at club level rather than the NRL itself, since the clubs are technically the employers?

The NRL's stance on harm minimisation reminds me of the hesitation/paralysis past Australian Governments had with the apology to indigenous Australians.

I don't know what that political agenda has to do with anything really. But I'm not getting into how we as a nation can't STFU and move forward together.

What are your thoughts on the mouthguard? Do you think they should be forced to have them in their mouth, or should it be on the player?

I hated my mouthguard when I played. We got in shit for not wearing it though.

Granted - it did help when you got hit in the chops.

Did you guys have professionally fitted ones, or the old, dump it in boiling water, scold your mouth and wait type?
