NRL Players and family members in hot water

I'm sorry but what does that have to do with anything I wrote?

Sorry Pete not all of it was directed towards you. I agree It's a shame that as a result that initial club pays the price but if your talking serious breaches of the law then a tough message needs to be sent and a club's position on the ladder or financially doesn't come into calculations for me, if a player ***** up so badly that they have to be let go by said club then so be it. Happens as well to the rich clubs to our own Brisbane Broncos letting Julian O'Neill go who would be picked up by the Western Reds for 1996-1997 for drink driving offences in England. IMO the NRL really need a solid program in place for returning players in said situation, independent of clubs that they need to complete before clubs can even look to sign them, after that they can only be signed for a one year contract and a review to be conducted at the end of that contract.

None of that really has anything to do with what I'm saying.

The NRL needs to crack down on this and make their future employer accountable for any further damage to the game.

I get it. Instead of the "risk" of the next club being they get a player normally below their untainted market value that may stuff up again & simply be thrown away, they need to actually be accountable for the player's actions. The player ***** up again, the club pays a price. Like massive fine or even points.

I've often thought this should be the case anyway with clubs, regardless of first offence, fifth offence, first club, fifth club. But the reason it won't work is that it just gives the clubs an even greater incentive to cover up incidents. Mitchell Pearce for example.

To be honest I think if a player signs a player that was sacked from his previous club for off-field behaviour, the players contract should be included on their salary cap even if they sack him.

Sure you pick up a cheap player, but if he ***** up again you get penalised.

The only penalty worth handing out to a misbehaving player is one that hurts the player

Rather than being sacked, being forced to play reserves for a year on base wage would really hurt the player

The player would then get a second crack at the big time, with the original club

Contracts would have to be written up to include a standard clause on this, and there would need to be an independent panel as part of the process so clubs don't rort it

Isn't it frustrating to see such a bright young talent throw their career away like that?

Also, does have anyone else have a problem with the current situation where an obvious talent like Liam Knight messes up, serves a year only to get picked up by one of the 'rich' clubs? It just seems to compound the issue and for a player in Knight's position, who probably wasn't going to play much first grade it's hardly that big a deal.

Maybe I'm being unfair but after the Todd Carney saga I can't help but be skeptical over the situation.

And Blake Ferguson, Josh Dugan.

In fact, the feeling down here a while back was that they were doing it on purpose to get out of contracts.

Former NRL and easts tigers player joel romelo charged for allegedly dealing ice in darwin. Tragic.

Tweet from Peter Badel of Courier Mail.

Tragic? Really?

Yes, not for him, what a jerk if true but certainly tragic for the people he was dealing to. Ice doesn't just make zombies, it makes violent, psychotic ones that would kill without even knowing it, it is a tragedy it has even been created.

Tin foil hat theory in the office here is that Ice is the result of the government trying to make a super serum ;)

You have a secret bunker somewhere, don't you?

On one of the other forums they were saying Liam Knight only got 4 weeks which is a bit soft. Can anyone confirm this?

100%. Devastating, tragic etc get thrown around far too much these days. In all media.

Why is it tragic for the people he dealt to? They still have a choice and if he wasn't selling it somebody else would be. I agree that it's a shitty situation but how many people are forced to take ice?
