NRL Season Recommencing

NRL 2020: Shock as players refuse to return to training
NRL players have infuriated club bosses over their stance on a new pay deal that has put rugby league’s May 28 reboot date back on shaky ground

Greedy fuckers. Guess who is at the heart of the mutiny. That steaming pile of shit Smith.

They want certainty around pay. Here is certainty. They certainly won't see a fucking dime if the competition doesn't recommence,

Where does it say Smith is at the heart of it all? They have just tagged him onto the article because he is Cam Smith.

During the phone hook-up senior NRL players, led by Melbourne Storm captain Cameron Smith, backed the position of the Warriors to not commit to travelling to Australia until their was financial clarity from the NRL.

Hmmm, I would probably commit to a couple of weeks in the meantime if I knew the alternative was three fifths of **** all.
agreed.

agreed.

How would they know he led it? Sounds like bullshit to me. The article I read in the SMH said Smith and other senior players threw support behind the warriors. Not Smith leading some big revolution.

Smith would love for the Warriors to not compete, they are a bogey side for the Storm. Anyone that thinks Smith's motivations are about benefitting anyone but himself has not been following his career very closely.

Storm haven't lost to them since 2015 and is winning overall 26/44 games with two draws. Probably wasn't on his mind to be honest.

You really reckon he just said "Yeah, if you don't want to come that's cool."

Yeah I reckon his role might have been a bit more than that.

Those diamond rings aren’t going to just appear on Barb’s finger now are they.

Oh wait, yes they are.

I doubt there are that many opposition teams and players in the current competition that would be so afraid of this mediocre Warriors side they would resort to holding the season hostage just to avoid them.

**** I wish we had bogey teams like that

No, i just dont think he was some kind of ringleader in all this.

Would you even be allowed to work without a pay deal? I would imagine tax and insurance would be pretty big parts of your deal.

Yep, done it plenty of times.

but in this situation the players are at greater risk of injury than you would be (at least i assume) ... and should they get injury without a pay deal in place, there could be insurance concerns etc

Thinking more about what you said regarding insurance, that would be a major sticking point Foordy, you’re right. But that shouldn’t be so much their concern as it is the NRL who would be liable. You’d think that they’d be all over removing these basic road blocks. Crazy really. I can’t see how insurance would be overly dependent on the TV rights deal as it is something the NRL have to cover regardless.

Insurance wouldn't have anything to do with the TV deal directly ... but insurance would be linked to how much the players are paid, which is pretty much tied into the TV rights ...

worst case scenario a player gets a career ending injury whilst training ... the insurance company decides not to play the claim because the finer details of the pay deals haven't been finalised (we all know what a bunch of greedy ***** the insurance companies are) ... that just makes a big mess of things ...

What amount would the insurance company even pay if there wasn't actually a pay deal in place? It's far, far too messy to attempt to train or play without all that stuff ironed out first.

Whatever was previously outlined in the player’s contract, until further notice, I’d suggest.
It has to stand up in court though, against an extremely well funded insurance company's legal team. Next to no chance.

dont think the players contracts are in doubt and the only reason they are getting a pay cut is because of what the rlpa negotiated for them. they get paid more as the game grows being partners or some shit but likewise if the game suffers money wise so do they.
