This is a message board and it's fun to discuss which players we believe would be better in this position and that. I have no issue with people expressing how they'd prefer Barba over Boyd, or Milford at 5/8, or to retain Hannant, etc.

It's the death riding and vitriol towards Bennet that has to stop filling every thread. Bennets here, Barbas gone and Boyd is on his way. No amount of arguing on bhq will change any of that. Surely we need to allow Bennet a few weeks of the season to prove he's a huge failure before we start hating him and his decisions. Same goes for Boyd, and that's the part if that article of Lockys that I agree with most.

There was one quote by Boyd that had me worried. It was along the lines of the pressure to be a perfectionist was crushing. Does that mean it doesn't come naturally? If that's the case, it has me concerned that if he remains meticulous in his prep, it might be too much and he'll relapse. The alternative is that he drops his intensity somewhat, but not being as innately talented as others, it's his attention to all the 1%ers that is keeping him in the elite category.

I don't think Boyd has ever been elite.

I am not worried about that comment though. I read it more as that he puts too much pressure on himself and when he fails it breaks him like in 2014.

I would actually be surprised if he doesn't have a very good year.

Boyd gets picked because he is world class. He gets picked by Queensland based selectors but he also gets picked by NSWelshmen. That is absolute proof of his class. It isn't favouritism when it's not WB ( not even then imo ) None of the selectors have the much maligned relationship with Boyd that WB has so it's simply his ability that he is judged on. When you consider how many different selectors there have been over his career and the experience they collectively have its hard to argue with Boyds credentials. I expect him to become a much loved son in 2015 playing some of the best football of his career and it will not surprise if he is moved out of fullback and into the centres. I think there will be more pressure on him and surprisingly,he will feel it less ! ( due to being better equipped and carrying less burden )

Proof of his class, yes. Does not make him world class though. That statement is just a joke. Inglis is world class. Thurston is world class. Boyd, despite playing with all of them, is not world class.

In fact, given that the game is only played in three countries, to even use the term world class is stupid. Boyd is a fine player, but he's not elite. That's a tag reserved for actual elite players like Inglis and JT.

Ari, I do understand what you mean. At the risk of disagreeing with you,the game is played in a couple more countries than just three ! It's got to be more valid though than the Americans claiming World Series for baseball ! The statement that it's not world class is strange when you yourself use the term to describe Inglis and Thurston !

Anyway, forget the terminology,we can all agree that Boyd plays at the highest level possible and if you want to lessen Boyds status, well that's your choice. Do I think he is at the same level as Inglis and others of his ilk, well no but there isn't that many who are. Even in the best teams in any sports there are contributors ,players who may not be considered as superstars but certainly are in the elite level. I for one am happy we have someone like that at the back.

A strong contributor I can agree on. Despite my dislike of Boyd's signing I have been quite consistent in saying that I think he will have a strong 2015.

And yes, Americans are so dumb. I lol when they claim to be world champions. Particularly NBA teams as they actually play baskeball in the Olympics.

FYI - I don't consider SJ elite. So when I say Boyd is not it's hardly an insult.
