Re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

Watch the 12+ minute highlights video and youll see that most of it was just Barba being Barba. The rest of the team doesnt matter when you are scoring length of the field kick return tries every other week.

im not saying he didn't do some great things. But the team he had around him helped.

Re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

To all the Barba haters, can I just ask what you think of players like Thaiday and Gillett? Thaiday has been useless for years, and Gillett has been generally shit, especially defensively, apart from his first year. Do you want them gone? Why havent you been calling for them to be shipped out for the last few years?

Barba has had 1 year in which he came back from a serious injury, only to get injured in the pre-season 9s tournament. He then played injured, never getting back to full health. He had also been treated for depression, gambling, drinking, and all of this while playing for a completely new team in a different state with a vastly different coaching style..........and you want him dropped straight away.

do you see how dumb that sounds?

Barba haters is a bit harsh. I would gladly take Taumalolo in exchange for both of them.

Re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

No offence but your opinion is provably wrong.

He won the Dally M Player of the Year at fullback. He won fullback of the year too. This whole "too small" thing is ridiculous. Bowen was "too small" yet is one of the modern day games best ever fullbacks. You know who else was "too small"? Langer. Look how that turned out.
Bowen was a great attacking fullback but most times bailed out in defence when he had to contest a high ball. He also did not put his body on the line most times in defence on his try line.
I would rate him one of the best modern attacking fullbacks but overall game no.

Langer on the other hand proved a lot of people wrong but he did miraculously put on a lot of bulk over one off season which helped him in the top grade. Langer also did not play fullback from memory so his name has no basis in this argument

He was "too small" for a rugby league player, so his name has plenty of basis for this argument.

We could be talking about boyd 2014

Besides the fact he was never too small to be a rugby league player, height is more an advantage at fullback than halfback

And Barba 2014
I would also argue that Bowen was a better attacking player than Boyd.
BTW I was not pushing Boyd's barrow, I was merely responding APs comment

Haha one fucking time dude! Barba did it every damn time a bomb went up this year..

I agree that he had some help behind that forward pack in a general sense. But here's what I don't get -- the things he did exceptionally well were returning kicks, running in broken play and supporting Reynolds and the forward pack. These are all quintessential qualities of a great fullback. Which is not to say that Barba is a great fullback, but some people are saying he's not a fullback, and I don't get it.

He may not be some people's version of what they want in a fullback, but he is way more of a fullback than he is any other position (frankly I think he's a mediocre five-eight). And regardless of whether or not people care he won a Dally M, he had a great period at fullback (not just 2012 but he was also very good in 2011 IMO).

But lots of people said he was lol. like theyre now saying about barba. noone said it in 2012 though, when he was heads and shoulders above everyone else in the competition while playing fullback.

I disagree about the comment that Bowen didn't put his body on the line. I think he did as good as he could in defence given his size. He couldn't really go up top since he got brushed easy, but he seemed to go for the legs a lot. He never came up with the "one on one dominating the opposition" tackles like Inglis can, but it's wrong to say he didn't put his body on the line.

It was a real shame that he's knees gave him trouble during his career. It did take a bit of speed and footwork away from him, but it seemed to be returning to an extent. He ran down a couple of very quick players such as Slater, Johnson, Locke etc. I still can't fathom why the Cowboys let him go. A club legend who had a couple of good years left in him. We have to remember he was second in the Dally M's in 2012 the year Ben Barba won. That just shows how good form he was in.

Anyway, I agree, he was and still is in my opinion the best attacking fullback/player I have ever seen. One of the most naturally gifted players who was just blessed with speed, acceleration, evasiveness, footwork, you name it, he had it all (besides height). His combination with Thurston was a pleasure to watch.

I was hoping Barba would bring that sort of excitement to the Broncos but I guess not...

I don't believe anyone said he was too small to be a rugby league player, you may be getting confused that they thought he was too small to play at an elite level
interestingly I just checked Milfords profile and they list him as 178cm. He must have sneaked a box in to stand on

elite level being professional in the NSWRL/ARL/NRL.

there were plenty of times he never even stuck an arm out to try and defend his line. I would have said that was one his big failings. Needless to say he would not have stopped them going over but you never know he may have caused a lost ball if he had tried

Re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

Yes first grade or rep
so when i say that people said he was too small, you do realise that im obviously talking about too small FOR FIRST GRADE RUGBY LEAGUE, dont you? Which they did say, and which you just agreed they said.....

Re: [Rumour] - Broncos to sign Darius Boyd

elite level being professional in the NSWRL/ARL/NRL.
Because of his size he developed a tackling style all of his own which was so effective I think they may have tweaked a rule change because of it
