[Official] - Milford signs with Broncos

I don't think we're talking about the same thing Splinter... I'm talking about the post where john1420 asks whether whatshisface is Ricky Stuart.

This is how I see it as a Broncos fan.
Hoffman - Hi Broncos I really am sick of not playing fullback and I should be fullback!
Broncos - But we have Barba now and we could really use your share of the cap to buy other players if you aren't going to be a team player we have other players that can play in the position we want you to play.
Hoffman - I DONT WANNA BE A TEAM PLAYER HAVE YOU SEEN MY TWITTER?
Broncos - Thanks for your services over the years but we are going in another direction and we have decided to agree to release you as we have a Dally M winning fullback now.

As a fan in my opinion I(personally) am fine with the Broncos letting him go. I am not saying they have to and the simple fact is they definitely don't have to but as a fan if he isn't going to be a team player and we have a new fullback then seriously he can go to the dogs(we did end up snaring their fullback after all because he wanted to go home).
Once again this is in my opinion.

This is how I(in my opinion) see the Milford situation.
Milford - My dad is really sick, I am homesick, and I have a clause that says I can leave my contract because of this.
Raiders - But we have no one else to cover for you because we booted our other stars! We want you here! The contract says we have to agree to release you and we don't agree because your dad's heart problems aren't as severe as required in your clause.
Milford - Yes they are. This is BS.
Lawyer - Sorry Milf it appears the Raiders are technically right on this one because of <insert legal reason here> so you can either stay for another year or sit out a year because the raiders have the legal right to force you to do this if they feel like it and they refuse to release you a year early to Brisbane and that is their choice as you are contracted to the Raiders.
Milford - Damn. This is BS.

In my opinion these are very different situations and as a Broncos fan carrying on about how Milford should be released makes it look like as a fan base that we are jumping up and down having a tantrum because we have to wait to get a player we signed for 2015 because at the end of the day the situation for 2014 and where Milford is actually has nothing to do with the Broncos and it shouldn't have because Milford is contracted to the Raiders. If Milford is contracted to the Raiders and legally he can't get a release and the Raiders refuse to give him one then yes he should finish at the Raiders or sit the season out of the NRL and prepare for 2015.

Once again this is an opinion piece.

I really think you should make it clearer that this is opinion not fact. ;)

Although it doesn't meant a whole lot, Milford has removed the "Canberra Raiders" from underneath his name on Twitter.

That actually does say a lot TBH, unless he's just messing around with his profile and it ends up there again,

Very true. I mean obviously he could just be messing around with his profile, if not it's a pretty clear indication that he has no intention on returning

have we heard any more speculation or whispers about Milford and Canberra or the NRL doing something about it - anything more from the BRONCOS Management in the background - someone must have heard something the last few days - IT HAS GONE VERY QUIET ON THE WAR FRONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nope. Status quo is Milford at Raiders for 2014.

To me Milford's outburst reflects his anger at the way the above message was cast by the Raiders as being Milford's decision made under his own free will and that he is "pleased" to adopt that position.

Neither Ayoub or the Broncos want to agitate the point. Broncos have resigned to his signing for 2015, 2016 only.

He's obviously playing under duress for the Raiders next year.

A glaringly obvious issue which the Raiders' incompetent management and egotistical new coach (and indeed its fans) can't or won't see.

Notwithstanding Milford's legal position, if Team Barcardi weren't sacked, the Raiders would have released Miflord for 2014. Simple as that.

They're playing dog in the manger which is incredibly short sighted. They deserve for it to backfire on them (Papalli and Milford at the Broncos in 2015, for example).

But then again, we're talking a club that pins its hopes to Terry Campese's knee and has done for the past 5 years.

NRL won't be stepping in to resolve the dispute, 1910 has already confirmed this, only chance of Milford playing for us next year is if the Raiders release him and that seems pretty unlikely at this stage. Now whether MILF is playing NRL at all next year is the big question.

Love it.

I think we need to move on, but hopefully don't spoil 2014 mentally pyning for an effectively unproven rookie to be our saviour for 2015 and an excuse to write off 2014.

Even if no Milford next year, I hope Barba stays at fullback.

If Barba can make a grand final behind Reynolds and Keating, surely Hunt and [insert rookie with more talent than both] can shine.

PS I have this feeling Norman is going to kill it at the Eels with Hayne/Sandow smoothing over/taking the pressure off his ability.

IMO the Raiders forcing Milford to play for them in 2014 is going to do them more harm than good.

I don't think anyone believes the Raiders are a genuine premiership chance next season (otherwise holding on to Milford would be best for them). so effectively what they are doing, is preventing a player who will be at the Raiders long term, from gaining valuable NRL experience for the Raiders to have a crack at the premiership in 2015.

by holding on to Milford, they are effectively writing of the next 2 seasons, while Milfords replacement gets NRL experience... top management strategy that

I think it's passed the point of Milford being a Raider next year. Ricky is obviously having a tanty and thinks that if the Raider's can't play him then no one can. But he always has a thought process behind these foolish decisions, and they are the reason why he considers himself a genius. The irony is that he's actually so stupid that he can't see the folly.

In his head, he thinks that he's perceived as a respected taskmaster. He' won premierships, won Origin series' as a player, and won individual Origin games as coach (he'd have won a series if not for the refs, insert fist shake here). He is tough on his players but they respect him for it because he has shown that it gets results (cough). He needs to stand firm. Show everyone that Ricky's Raiders will not be taken lightly. Allowing a release for a contracted player would be foolish, it would undermine his team's culture (double cough). Be tough. Let them know who's boss and they will respect him for it. Genius. And ballsy. No one is as ballsy as Ricky (vomit).

Back on a place we call Planet Earth, it doesn't work that way. Ricky thinks he's a master wordsmith, that he can twist anything and he comes up looking like Greenberg. But the media (and the Broncos for that matter) are much smarter. It'll end up a PR nightmare for them. Regardless of the wording, Milford had a clause inserted that in his own mind protected him if he wanted to go home. If it wasn't that important to him, why was it inserted in the contract? If the only way he'd sign with Canberra was to have this get-out clause, then Canberra have royally fucked him over. You can roll out as many Broncos-hating "experts" as you want, all saying that Milford is just a weasel and he should honour what he signed, but eventually the public will see it for what it is. And that's that Milford has been shafted. The reality isn't that Raider's players will bow down to Master Ricky, and not dare to question his strength. The reality is that in the long term players are going to be hesitant to sign with Canberra because they'll be concerned that they, too, will be shafted. Just like Milford.

I have a feeling Milford is not planning on being a Raider next year. He has removed Canberra Raiders from his Twitter and has changed his Instagram profile picture from a him playing for the Raiders to him playing for Samoa.

If Milford doesn't turn up at the Raiders, are they entitled to sue him for breach of contract, or would it be as simple as they won't pay his wage?

I think they just wont pay his wage ... similar to when Tallis did it.

Whatever recruitment they have left will drop to zero if they sue a player, regardless of circumstances.

Milford can't be sued for not turning up to work, he can only be terminated and then the Raiders can ask the NRL to prevent him from playing for another club for 2014.

OK in your little scenario does milford just think he has a clause or does he actually have one, because if he did have a clause wouldn't the lawyer say you have a clause you have every right to leave dont worry about the raiders?

The logic in your "opinion" is more on the side of fairytale bias dribble as opposed to "opinion."

And to be fair to hoffman he is a quality player and if I was the broncos and not getting milford in 2014, I would hold onto hoffman, to be honest I would hold onto hoffman even with milford and play him on the wing/centres....
