[Official] - Milford signs with Broncos

You have to hand it to Milford though, he isn't letting any of this crap talk in the media put him off his game.

As was said earlier, his form so far this season has been spectacular !!

Milford's contract with the Raiders expires at the end of 2014.

Milford is contracted to the Broncos for 2015.

If Milford wanted to back out now, surely the Raiders would have to pay the Broncos compensation for 2015, similar to the compensation the Broncos had to pay the Bulldogs, regardless of whether or not the contract has been registered with the NRL.

Can someone point me to the definitive position on the "Round 13 rule" - or at least explain how they think it works, and why it does or doesn't apply to the Milford contract for 2015.

It's a murky area alright. Especially if, as some have suggested, the Round 13 clause has been removed. NRL can refuse to register it till the cows come home but it is still a legally binding contract.

Hypothetically, if a player such as Milford tried to reneg and the NRL refused to register the contract, could the club stand their digs and say, well you are contracted to us so sit on the sidelines for the remainder of our contract. Or go play Qcup?

Exactly.

AFAIK, (assuming Milford backflipped) the Broncos playing hardball could mean objecting to the Raiders registering an NRL contract for Milford in 2015 with the Raiders and the kid sitting on the sidelines for 2015.

Shoe on the other foot, so to speak.

Ethically, as a club, I'd hope we wouldn't actually carry out that threat, but I'd hope the Raiders and the Broncos (and the NRL) were clear on each party's legal position before we simply rolled over.

Has anyone seen the rumours on twitter saying Jarrod Hayne to the Raiders? Not sure if there is anything in it or a smoke screen to keep Milf. Maybe Milf has told them once and for all that he won't back flip hence the interest in Hayne

If there is any substance to the rumour I would assume it means they have given up on keeping milf because there is no way they can afford both.

People go on about Hayne being over-rated and arrogant, but for him to have stuck it out with the Eels for this long is a tribute to him. Like Mannah, Hindmarsh, Cayless, etc, they would rather do their best for their club than win a premiership. Ideally they'd want both, but one means more to them than the other. After all this time though, you couldn't blame Hayne if he did pack it in.

from Sportals Lurker if he can be believed

Reports last weekend that Canberra are preparing a massive war chest to retain star fullback Anthony Milford are spot-on.
But I'm hearing the $1 million reported in the press is under what the Raiders are prepared to pay to keep Milford, who has committed to join Brisbane in 2015.
The true figure, when you include bonuses, third-party deals and other 'extras', will be more like a staggering $1.2 million a year.
Good luck to the Raiders – but I’m hearing whatever they throw at Milford, the Broncos will simply add an extra $50,000.

If true, I find that pretty annoying. I'm glad that the Broncos are willing to go toe to toe with the Raiders on the issue, but Milford has signed a contract with us! We, simply put, should not have to pay him any more! He has signed with us for X amount, so why should we keep upping that amount to get the Raiders to **** off! This round 13 garbage is just mind boggling.

if that is true the Raiders must be nearly upping or offer by 250% that is massive. and i'm glad (once again if true) that we will only add an extra 50k

Surely Milford says to himself why did they not offer this when they had the chance.
Broncos would have a ceiling they are prepared to pay. I would not say they would just add another $50000. Depends how much they have to put under the cap and how much in TPA

Lol at paying 1.2m for Milford, he isn't in that league of players yet to deserve that kind of money.
