[Official] Smith re-signs with the Storm

A lot of people don't want to win. They'd prefer to remain "pure" and miss the final every year.

The are the sort of people who are worried about players being upset because you bought someone who plays their position.

You can usually spot them because they like to compare our players to buttress and Matt Keating and they accuse anyone who says we should let someone go of "not being a real supporter".

They can often spell too....

Re: [RUMOUR] Macca to Storm

I think some league fans give too much credit to the coaches. I don't think it was Bellamy that got Blair to his best. It would be hard to look bad with the quality of players he had around him. Did he just forget everything Bellamy taught him when he went to the Tigers? And what has Maguire done? Apart from not winning in 2013 with a team that should have won it. Super League Grand Finals don't count.

Having Milford and Barba around Smith is not that far from having Slater and Cronk, besides everything that Hunt would learn from Smith (in the same way Widdop learned a lot, and he doesn't have the talent or vision of Hunt), so it is a very real possibility that getting Smith would deliver us a premiership, or at the very least set us in great shape to win one in the short term.

Besides that, we would get a guy with a lot of RL smarts in the coaching staff, something we all know is a necessity.

Macca is not as bad as some paint him, but he isn't a great/very good hooker either. I do like the kid, see plenty of potential in him, but he needs some serious coaching to get rid of his flaws, meaning a "trade" with Melbourne would be win/win. Besides, like someone said, what's to stop us to throw a lot of Smith's coin at Macca, if Bellyache has managed to get all the potential out of him once the Aus Captain retires?

I am surprised people will let their personal dislike for Smith override the clear benefits his recruitment would mean to the Broncos present and future.

Don't get me wrong I would love smith at the broncos, it's just not going to happen and it never was. This was all just a stunt to make sure Melbourne give him top dollar.

I'm just trying to point out that macca isn't as bad as most say and getting rid of him will not help us get smith.

It's like dumping your girlfriend because you think there is a chance that one day Scarlett Johanson will knock on your door and ask you to marry her

Ok your obviously referring to me but I have never said anyone is not a real supporter, that has been said of me but I have never said that.

I have also never said I care if a player is upset cos we bought someone in their position, read the Hoffman threads if you don't believe me.

Why don't you stick to facts instead of trying to bait fellow posters

People are entitled to their opinions, no matter how different or weird they may look to others.

Baiting is against BHQ rules too... I hope I'm making myself clear to everyone!

Now you are just talking out your butthole. People want to win but they also want the club to keep its integrity.

We obviously aren't going to release McCullough unless we sign Smith or someone else.

That has nothing to do with the quote you have quoted.

Obviously the broncos wouldn't but posters have suggested we do that regardless

WHAT? What do you mean by that? I have no chance of getting Scarlett... ever?

Seriously though, albeit I am in the camp of Smith using the Broncos to get the best contract he can at the Storm, I have no doubt he will move up north if the coin is attractive enough when compared to Melbourne. Besides, it would be cool if it meant the Storm rort the cap for him and get caught again! :takdir:

What? No I didn't mean that, Scarlett is totally hot for you, I think she's just worried about the whole long distance thing...

Merged both threads, since we're essentially talking about the same thing, except for the news about Macca possibly going to the Storm as a trade off...

Noone has EVER alleged that any player knew about the Storm rorting the cap.

And if we are going to get all precious about integrity we should have sacked Thaiday, Hunt and co after the 2008 incident.

Point is the venom that some people have towards Smith is surprising.

Actually, there were plenty of allegations about Smith and the other three, like the famous boat for Inglis. Slater was the only one from memory who actually refused to sign the "shadow contract"...

Not true. Slater's had a clause inserted that specified that every part of his contract must be cap compliant. But still signed two contracts. So you can read that as he wanted to make sure it was all above board, or that he knew it was dodgy and had it inserted as a means of clearing himself of any responsibility. The fact that he still signed both versions makes me lean towards the latter.

I'm surprised by the amount of people on here that think McCullogh is bad or not up to first grade. I don't think he is a great player or anything but he is still a solid first grade hooker that fills the spot well, he was our player of the year in 2012 and came up with the 2nd most tackles in the comp that year as well.

When was the last time the broncos had the best hooker? Or even top 2

Kerrod Walters was the best hooker in the comp between about 91 and 93. Only lost out to Steve because he got suspended.

Priddis was in the top couple when he was with us.

The difference is that we had gun halves so a good hooker wasn't that important.

Now we need a good hooker because we have so so halves.

Point is, compared to Smith, Ballin, Farah, Friend, Luke and Segeyaro he's pedestrian and you can't win a comp with a pedestrian 9.

More frustratingly, we have an opportunity to get a world class 9 and so many people seem to want to keep the pedestrian player. I don't get it.
