[Official] Smith re-signs with the Storm

The problem for you is you are being a very harsh judge on McCullough. He isn't pedestrian at all. He is inconsistent. There is a huge difference. McCullough at his best which we have seen more than a glimpse of is capable of being one of the top hookers in the game.

I'm no massive fan of McCullough, I've said that 100 times but I honestly think he's the least of our worries, as much as I don't rate him, he's serviceable and I think our defence and halves need to be sorted before our 9 position. A bit of competition from Granville for the 9 could be enough for Macca to be pushed to his best form and I truly think at his best he can be good, and it's only complacency holding him back which is where Granville should help.

He's pedestrian.

He has occasional flashes of brilliance but that doesn't mean you can be a top player. Over 100 games you expect he'd do something good ocassionally.

Warner has flashes of brilliance but he's not Hayden.

I really don't know what games you've been watching. So far, he has been entirely pedestrian. A pedestrian that can't make it 80 minutes up the footpath without a rest.

Oh good the old 'can't play 80' chestnut.

Remind me again how many hookers in the competition consistently play 80?

Ps you don't understand how much I WANT to be wrong about Macca.

I just don't think that after 100 games you can say he's any but slow and pedestrian.

I'm going to defend Macca this time. Reckon he can play 80, just Hook demands a bench hooker.

Cameron Smith? I would've thought that's the whole reason why this thread even exists at all.

If that's the case, then it only accentuates that need to flick Griffin. How good would it be for us to have one more forward rotation on the bench.

I pray for that every night.

Big aggressive forwards are a must. Have a look at Souths and easts.

If being able to play 80 is the reason we're buying Smith I'm just going to say that's a colossal waste of money.

The answer is basically nobody at Macca's age could play 80 consistently, not even Smith so that whole agenda is silly.

Macca has a lot of problems but not being able to play 80 is not one of them.

I draw the line there. The "not an 80 minute player" I don't think is a fair (cause he's never been asked to do anything else).

I think the type of Hooker McCullough is would benefit being able to play the 80 minutes but that really isn't his issue at the moment.

Look, I've said my piece on McCullough in the past so I'm not going to repeat myself despite others constantly running their mouths - but I feel like people rely on that 'can't play 80' excuse as a crutch.

Let's face it, ya'll love Jake Friend, Issac Luke & James Segeyaro. None of them play 80 consistently, so why aren't you getting stuck into them for it?

Think about that, and use those reasons against Macca - it's better for everybody in the long run.

While McCullough isn't perfect he isn't rubbish either. He still has plenty of improvement in him. Some of you are just seduced by Cameron Smith. There are so many positives in bringing him to the club but you'd be lying to yourself if you think there are no negatives. Just because we have struggled for a few years doesn't make all our players no good. I thought it has been pretty obvious that our biggest problems have been coaching, fitness and the retirement of Darren Lockyer.

Kerrod Walters was the best hooker in the comp between about 91 and 93. Only lost out to Steve because he got suspended.

Priddis was in the top couple when he was with us.

The difference is that we had gun halves so a good hooker wasn't that important.

Now we need a good hooker because we have so so halves.
I'm sure uncle Kerrod would be happy with that comparison . Priddis would have been up there. But u could equally say that both benefited from a dominate forward pack and world class halves.

All this talk about Macca brings up a question.

If Hook persists with resting McCullough, which forward do you think is going to be forced to the reserve grades? Someone has to make way for Granville, or another one of our young hookers.

That's a poor example to make your point- Hayden took 10 years to be the player you're talking about.

How long are you "McCullough will come good...in the future" fans are willing to give him?
