[Official] Smith re-signs with the Storm

Friend's contract is up at the end of the year with the Roosters isn't it?

Re: Macca to Storm

Storm get a very good hooker .....puh-leeaase !!

Brisbane getting by far the better end of the stick with this rumour......

Regardless the storm will be getting the end of the stick that doesn't cost 1.5 million a year

Re: [RUMOUR] Macca to Storm

Ehhhh, this thread seems a little premature - of course if the Broncos sign Smith, McCullough will likely go to a club looking for a #9, one of those clubs being Melbourne.

2014 is going to be a very interesting season for Macca, that's for sure.

Re: Macca to Storm

Great. So we will get a fantastic hooker for a few years and then be completely ****ed. Whereas storm get a very good hooker who could well get much better for at least 10 years. Wouldn't surprise me if the broncos let this happen... Would be par for the course really.

Would be interesting if it did happen and macca became the next to play for qld. After we have all been told that we know nothing for thinking macca is worthwhile

Not really. We'd sign a much better hooker, win a premiership, and then sign/promote another better hooker once Smith retires.

Re: [RUMOUR] Macca to Storm

Macca has a lot of potential that Bellamy will likely help him achieve, playing with Slater and Cronk for a couple of years will also help him. I'd wager 2-3 years at the Storm will put him at the front of the line for Origin when Smith retires.

That's not to say we'd be getting screwed, we'd have a great chance of a premiership for 2-3 years, whoever we have at 6/7 will become better players having him around, and we'd likely attract more young players who want to play/train with the QLD/AUS Captain.

This is the point I was trying to make, thank you grimmiq for saying it much better than I could lol

Re: [RUMOUR] Macca to Storm

So assuming you are right, and Bellamy is someone who can help him achieve his potential....how does that help us if he stays?

Re: [RUMOUR] Macca to Storm

Macca is a solid first-grader and isn't a bad player I think Bellamy would get the best out of him like he does with the others. His style of gritty defence and an effective short passing game will suit the Storm well. Would still like to get Smith as he will be able to mentor the halves and the rest of the team superbly making us better in the long term.

Re: [RUMOUR] Macca to Storm

Durko was the source of this today in his article in provincial papers.

Sadly though, Smith's arrival would almost certainly mean the departure of Andrew McCullough, a potential Broncos skipper and Queensland Origin hooker. McCulllough is a terrific talent, highlighted by the fact that the season before last he joined Allan Langer and Josh Hoffman as the youngest winners of the Paul Morgan Medal as Broncos player of the year.
But the 'mail' is that if Smith moves to Brisbane, McCullough will join the Storm. And McCullough is rumoured to be joining the same management company as Smith, which could be construed as convenient.
No doubt the Storm will do all in its power to retain Smith who is unquestionably one of the best players in the game. In fact he is considered by some with longer memories than me to be among the absolute greats.

Didnt realise it was already in the papers. Looking for new source.......hopefully one a little bit ahead on the news...

Re: [RUMOUR] Macca to Storm

And Durko wasn't the source I heard it from.....

Which is why it is such a bullshit rumour, most likely scenario is the Storm will retain Smitty and we will (sigh) be stuck with Macca. At least B4l will be happy.

Re: [RUMOUR] Macca to Storm

Probably a good career move, Bellamy would turn him into a consistent player.

Re: [RUMOUR] Macca to Storm

Bellamy would turn him into a Daly M winner.

It doesn't.

If it was a perfect world..

We get Smith, win 1-2 premierships.
Storm get Macca, wins 1 premiership, heir to QLD #9.
Smith retires, freeing up 1.5mil, we throw 800k at Macca at his peak.

Really doubt things would go that smoothly though but I don't see us wanting to keep Macca or him wanting to stay in Brisbane playing only a handful of games during injuries and rep duty.

Nope, end of 2015. And we'd be far from guaranteed to sign him given that everybody already knows he's a gun now.

Hookers off contract this year: Smith, Nathan Friend, Ennis, De Gois, Kingston, Morris, Kostjasyn, Lawton, Mitchell, Srama, Waddell, Romelo, Koroisau

Friend and Morris will probably retire, I can't see us chasing Ennis, Kingston and De Gois are both in decline, Lawton, Mitchell, Waddell and Romelo will never be more than back up options and Kostjasyn is the epitome of 'jack of all trades, master of none.
