Ive heard that Gillett supports the Blues
Yes Your 100% correct is a blues supporter! Got the Jersey and all the blue crap but played first senior game in QLD and played QLD residents Last year.

Ah well, if GI can grow up in NSW and be passionate enough to support and play for Queensland, then MG can be passionate enough to play for NSW. It's his choice.

Surely the rules are being enforced now though? Where your first game of first grade footy was played is the state you represent. eusa_think

I find it strange though, I've known a few people from NSW who support QLD but nobody I've met that I can think of has been from QLD and supported NSW.

Maybe his family are dirty mexicans?

i would prefer for him to play for nsw, he wouldnt have any qld passion, and thats basically what the qld team is all about, not talent.

Well I'm thinking he might not have a choice in the matter if he started his first grade footy in QLD. There was a pretty big stink kicked up about eligability after QLD got Inglis, so I would have thought the rules would be enforced quite strictly now.

He might be a great player in the future, he looks promising at the moment, but if he doesn't play for QLD then thats his loss cause NSW is for homos. :P

Just goes to show how ridiculous the rules are if Gillett feels as though he is a blue through and through yet if he ever plays Origin, it'll be for QLD because of these "rules". Complete joke.

While I wouldn't want someone who supports the opposition playing for us, if the rules aren't in place to keep it "State of Origin", i.e. where you started your footy, then what would be the point of it? And how would eligability work then? Ask players what colour they prefer when they start playing first grade?

i actually agree with rock on this one. just ask the player who they want to play for, no qlder at heart would ever say nsw...

altho a nsw player might like to win, so we could have legitimate blues putting their hands up for QLD just for a win lol

+1. Last thing Origin needs is someone playing for a state that doesn't give a shit.

Form never applies to star incumbents like Inglis. Or Lockyer. Or Slater. Or Smith. Or Hodges for that matter, even though he's actually never done anything at Origin level.

Except for starring in Queensland's 2006 campaign.

Was easily the best player for Queensland in Origin 1 and was right up there again in Origin 2.

But otherwise I agree fully. Was solid in 2007, average in 08 and mixed in 2009 (injured first game, but good in the third).

Agreed about the state rules but it can get out of hand - but generally I think players would take it legitimately and play for the state they barrack.

True Passionate QLDers would NEVER play for NSW.

Again 100% correct his parents are from NSW, So he it sjust supporting the team his family does, but if you asked MG where he would rather be i will gaurentee you it QLD and the same for how he would rather play for.

The latter. Ask the players, before they play their first game of rugby league in the NRL. If they pick NSW then so be it. If they pick QLD then so bet it. How can that possibly go wrong?

This is what origin is all about. Playing for YOUR state. 99.9% of the players will pick the state that they are most passionate towards. It's faultless. Just think, Greg Inglis was 1 year away from playing for NSW!

If you've lived in NSW for 15 years and you moved to QLD and have been playing your junior footy there for 5-6 years then making it to the NRL, then you decide to pick QLD as the state you're most passionate for, then so be it if that's the way you feel deep down inside. (Not sure how anyone can feel that way towards another state when you spent 70% of your life in the other one, but this is just an example...)[/quote:29zm64zy]

Spot on Now ask Mr Gillett which state he loves and he will tell you its QLD he grew up here all his mates are here he went to school here so its no question he is a Q'lander but supports the blues cos that what he grew up with .

Article on fox sports says Meninga has already earmarked him for QLD games in the future. I have no idea how hes going to play against the state he supports

No different to players who grow up as fans of one club and end up playing for another.
