Our chances of making the eight

So I guess we want Canberra and the Titans to lose today?

If Canberra wins, it will put both of them within our reach, and nothing would be sweeter than taking Barba and passing the Dogs on the ladder on the last round of the season! :sneaky2:

Raiders are getting fucking dusted by the Bulldogs.

We miss a lot of tackles, but we are lucky that the teams we have played so far are pretty inept at making the most out of their chances. We'll need to improve for the Doggies, and the Knights too for that matter. The problem is there is only 1 more simple game before them.

im happy for the dogs to win. we dont need rnd 26 against them to be a playoff for 8th spot. if their finals spot is assured and barba is 50/50 then they would likely not risk him.

Depending on which media you read, we missed between 37-42 tackles. 13 more than our opponents.

Miss that many in the next 3 matches and we are road kill.

Our defensive structures, especially line speed, keeping a straight line as we move up, and man on man marking are serious problems

Top 3 for missed tackles this season - Gillett, Carney and Prince. Gillett on 71, 11 ahead of Carney. Just shocking. Granted he didn't get found out in defence last night, possibly cause of Reed there to clean up. Hunt was the one who really struggled defensively on that edge.

But still, Gillett and Hunt on one side, Thaiday and Prince on the other, most good attacking sides will exploit that.

As a Gillett fan boy, I wince at those stats but have no argument. My only observation is that he seems to have steadied his game and focused a lot more in the last few weeks, and his defence is showing it. I just hope it continues.

While the individual missed tackles add up, the root causes are what worry me most: poor defensive line speed AND a broken line. Hayne showed what will happen to us when our defensive line is not straight with each man on man marking THE priority.

Mind you, Hoffa showed the Eels the same thing, but the song remains the same.

I just HATE it when players come in off their man and leave corridors. Our wingers - all of them, do it, and it has cost us games. The top 5 (and the Cowboys) would have destroyed us last night with the holes we left in the defensive line out wide.

If we don't focus, it will be the Cowboys who just might represent Qld in the 8

Cowboys beating the Titans helps. Next week the Titans play the Knights. It all chips away at our competitors for 8th position.

There definitely is a lack of linespeed in defence. It would help our defence tremendously. Give the attackers less room, and Gillett can certainly lay on a big hit.

I dunno why we don't seem to have it most of the time. I guess the most simple theory is the lack of fitness/stamina, which would make it mostly Griffin's fault, who we all know prefers having every player put on size to limit their movement, and also giving the bench forwards 20 minutes of game time...combined.

our back row all play 80 mins each and starting props 60+. its not a lack of stamina or fitness. its too many minutes with a lack of decent rotation. thaiday IS NOT an 80 minute player ffs. what is wrong with giving parker or gillet a bit of a break? why is mcguire being run into the ground? you know its going to happen. he's such a beast but we saw it last year he ran out of puff. maybe he wont.. hannant played 65 mins on friday, though he should be pretty fresh after missing so many games.

tasi 11 mins
jwallace 6 mins.

wallace didnt even have a run of the ball?

tasi made 3 runs for 35 metres. strong carries each time.

i dont get it

so yeah if storm beat the knights tomorrow we are RIGHT on the edge of the points for 7th/8th.

warriors should beat panthers, so it would be

7 knights 25
8 titans 24
9 warriors 24
10 raiders 24
11 broncs 23

keep winnin broncs

I just want us to finish above the Raiders, that combined with signing Milford will really put them in a spin.

Yeah, all it's doing is just burning out our main forwards. Parker works overtime every week, I think he should get a break, slotting Stagg into lock and just let him go nuts making tackles.

It should get better once Glenn and Dodds are back, Griffin actually seems to use them more than other players. And next year we'll get Kennedy. I think he's overrated and not particularly great, but we paid quite a bit for him not to be getting 40 or so minutes a game.

Todays results have really helped our chances of making the 8 ... at the end of the weekend we will be 1 points outside the 8. we still have to keep winning though.

If we win our remaining games, we're actually a big chance of finishing 6th and getting a home final!:w00t:

Panthers are due a good win and it would be right nice of them to do it this weekend ! Naturally they are at long odds to do so but the dream is alive still ! It's painfully to be death riding other teams so far out from the semis but the footy gods have been helping us every weekend since we reached desperation point , long may it continue .
