Our new halfback should be

Ahh the stat battle.

Again, any stats for useless fifth tackle options? Hunt would lead those.

Games won/lost this season?

Kodi has scored more than Hunt.

Hunt kicking the ball more is hardly a point in his favour...

So more tackle breaks and more try assists. Did we win those games?

Kodi has contributed far more to the wins we have achieved than Hunt.

Not to mention FAR fewer missed tackles, errors & penalties conceded from Nikorima, oh and he's also averaging far more runs & metres per game, in fewer minutes.

Stats are so irrelevant when you only post half of them.

Yes because they aren't after the truth, just trying to suit their bias.

You can't honestly tell me you don't hav a bias against Hunt

I can be vindicated by the fact that Bennett is on my side in this argument.

Unfortunately this will be a never ending argument this season. As neither side will be able to convince the other to change their opinions.

FTR, i don't use stats as the be slk and end all. I use them to back up my opinion of a players form.

since you brought stats into it in the live game thread:

Hunt has played 8 games to Nikorima's 7.

Hunt has 4 try assists to 0 for Nikorima

Hunt has kicked the ball 82 times (one of which was a 40/20) to Nikorima's 32

Hunt leads 17 tackle breaks to 13 (Milford has 46 in his 11 games FYI)

Hunt is behind in line breaks (2-1) and line break assists (3-2)

and i have never seen Nikorima lay on a kick like Hunt has the last 2 weeks for his outside mean (one lead to a try for Nikorima)

Nikorima certainly has his good points, but to say he has been much better than Hunt is just plain wrong.

(stats come from NRL.com)

Niko made those two sublime passes for sims to bust through and sims then made final pass for tries. This doesn't count as a stat for niko though I believe?

That was hard to make sense of mate...

Roosters, Titans, Manly all been considered contenders, mate.

We also held the Tigers to nil with Kodi.

I'm not pro Hunt or pro Kodi, I'm pro whoeverisbestforthejob. Atm I think Hunt should have a few more weeks saving grace because he was playing well before his hammy was busted. I forget what thread it was in but I wholeheartedly agree with @theshed's post a few days ago about these polar opposites being bullshit and detrimental to the forum. But are you suggesting that we held the Tigers to nil because Kodi was there? That's a new one...

Your right it doesn't count as a TA for Niko.

Did I say it was because Kodi was there?

Read the post I was replying to.

I have a bias against Hunt's inconsistent form, and like a lot of people here, I'm bitter about the GF and then his shithouse 2016 form.

But I've always been willing to give him a chance, he keeps letting me down.

As Unbreakable suggested, you only post the stats that suit your agenda. Otherwise you would have posted the rest that favoured Kodi.

Whether you think Hunt has been better than Kodi, Kodi has been better for the Broncos than Hunt. That's not a matter of opinion.

It's the hyperbole and disrespect shown from both sides that rubs me up the wrong way.

It's a shame, because there's been some good points made a long the way. I just wish in instances like this both sides could agree to disagree, sum up their opinions and move on.

FYI I thought Hunt had an ordinary performance against the Roosters, but would like to give him until the Round 17 clash against Melbourne before making a big decision to drop him.

Even if we lose all or most of our games in that time?

Also, does that include the Melbourne game? It's an important one.

I'd give him this entire period and if it doesn't work out then so be it.

I reckon hunt should just aim to kick the ball into touch or not do any kicking at all on the last tackle. There was a game a couple weeks ago where Macca took the last tackle kicks, could lessen the burden on hunt.

Surely between Milf, Hunt, Macca, Kodi and Benji we can organize and communicate a decent kicking game.

Yeah...that zero try assists for Knik. Surely that's wrong?

It's unlucky for both Hunt and the Broncs that Hunts injury happened. I can understand the want to give Hunt more time to prove himself since returning. If he wasn't injured and proved to be disappointing for nearly half a season there could be legitimate expectations of a change up.

As it is, it's not outrageous to want to give Hunt till the end of the Origin series to see where he lands. That's unfortunate for the Broncs though if it ultimately proves a failure as it's getting a little late in the day to move in another direction.

I admit its a bit harsh but I have moved on. Expecting something from Ben that I haven't really seen in a year and a half is not where I'm at.

Sure I'm just a pundit laying unrealistic expectations on humans who play a simple game to somehow fulfill my standards of success. But the point of this place is to have an opinion so I'm going to land on heading in a different direction than Ben. Sure it's early, but I'm currently picking up what Benji is putting down with Knic biting at his heels at no. 14. Happy to be proved wrong and Ben leads us to another GF though.

I think to change any of the spine but particularly the organising half, things have to be dire. Once its done, there's no going back. That effectively ends that players involvement with the team (you could use hunt as a utility, but to what point).
You build a team and its tactics around those player's strengths and weaknesses. Broncos were starting to show the kind of football that suited both hunt and Milford, running late in the tackle rather than attacking kicks in opponents halves, whilst using the forwards superior fitness by kicking early to get field position (macca's strength, both with dummy half kicks and stamina). Boyd's running game is sacrificed, but its not his strength, whilst he becomes a third half in attacking plays. I'm not saying replacing hunt or anyone else in the spine will send the team into a death spiral but the whole team will have to change to what a new half provides and that means huge disruption. Knik filled in superbly but surprisingly was allowed to play off dominating forward packs. Even then he couldn't kick. You got to play with what you got. How does the team get down field when dominated in the pack? Do you see your forwards buggered and kick for touch or are their forwards ready to be broken open.
I'm not saying hunt is perfect or even particularly good at those calls, but with the possible exception of macca he's better than anyone else.
I've been waiting for Boyd to take on that responsibility but he hasn't. Macca can't do it at hooker. That leaves the two halves. I'd swap all the great passes and kicks of any of them for one of them to stand up and see the right end of set play the way Cronk or smith does. Innes used to as well. Its a big part of a successful team, and vastly under appreciated.

I really don't get the upside of this. We might very well be out of contention by that time, for some stubborn sense of loyalty.

Do you actually believe he will be able to replicate his admittedly very good 2015, which really is the only thing he has to show for in his whole career, since he choked in the U20's Grand Final...?

If 3 games are what make or break the Broncos season then they were never a serious chance to begin with. They'll have 8 games after that period to sort themselves out so it's a reasonable deadline.
