Also, I have always hated Phil Gould but he has 100% lost all credibility after this. Pretty poor showing by him and the Panthers board. Gould has fucked that club, they are like 6 or 7 years into their '5 year plan' and are now on their 3rd or 4th coach...

When a coach goes, every player is on notice. They need to play well to impress the new coach, or impress another club should they not be in the new coaches “plans”.

Good call by Penrith, 4 weeks out from finals or not. Griffin is a spud of a coach. There had to be unrest amongst the playing group to cause this so suddenly. He's about as inspiring as Wilson the Volleyball.
Also anyone suggesting Griffin should come back here need to be admitted to an asylum and Phil Gould is a fuckwit.

This is not sudden, it's been speculated on most of the year.
Gould is great at blaming others but as usual nobody really knows what is going on.
IMO Gould will take an even more hands on coaching role and is certainly in a win win situation.
If they don't win a GF it's Griffins fault, if they do it's all him stepping in to lift the side.
I do feel sorry for Hook because he has been played.
Ikin presented some plausible reasons for WB going to the Panthers next year, the main one being WB has no where else to go and Gould has been adamant in his comments that he didn't think Bennett would be at the Broncos in 2019.
Possibly a lot of guess work but still plausible.
We still have Kevie to fall back on if Bennett bolts, again.

He punted Graeme Murray from the Roosters also after a GF appearance and a 6th placed finish. He's done this sort of thing for a long time.

This was due to happen at start of season. Many many relationship issues were going on. Gus is also set in his ways however this was not Gus' call today. Gus was the reason hook stayed at the start of the season as the board was close to guillotining him in January.
The shame of the situation is that two good coaches left the club due to hook and they had a wealth of knowledge and relations with all the current players that are coming through. It might be 8 months too late now.

Think he also punted Ricky Stuart after 3 grand final appearances and a premiership.
Whatever reasons Gould has for punting coaches it isn't based on performance.
