Parker and Hodges as captains impressions

I think it's pretty harsh to say the burden of captaincy is weighing down on Parker and Hodges. Parker has still been one of our better players but every mistake he makes now is magnified because people are wondering if he's trying too hard. Hodges has always tried to do everything himself even before being appointed co-captain, I haven't seen anything different from him.

I think they care, they really do but their performance is reflective of the team not the other way around.

you guys have been calling for Parker to be captain ever since Lockyer retired ... now after 6 months you are ready to strip him of it ... incredible

Not me~

I knew whoever got it was inheriting the poison chalice once Karmichael left.

Put the c next to Ofahengaue. I don't know what he's done but I need another player to bag out.

the thing is even Lockyer didn't start out a great captain ... I read an article a while back, that said the 2006 origin series was the making of Lockyer as captain 1.5 years after he was first appointed the Broncos full time captain

Putting Parker into his rightful position at lock would also help.

Now that is my agenda

Just give the (C) to Ben Hunt. He's the only thing keeping us competitive.

I actually agree with this. I see Hunt as one player who would actually thrive on the added responsibility of leadership, but I still like the idea of co-captains, and for mine, Parker, at lock, is the ideal choice.

I see Hunt as a future captain of the club. So really it would just be moving forward the plan to promote him. Giving it to a young bloke will also show all the young players in the squad that if you work hard, and show dedication, like playing out of position and sticking around until you've earned your position (Hoffman take note...), you can go far within the club.

Instead it goes to someone who's down on form and playing the wrong position for no reason other than to create a spot for another player.

I don't recognise Hodges as our captain. He's never been captain material IMO.

I kinda regret us re-signing Hodges for 2 more seasons to be honest.. If we didn't re-sign him we'd probably have enough cash for Boyd next season (To replace him at Right Centre, I don't rate Darius high enough to be Five-Eighth or Fullback), that's a pretty great replacement tbh.

1. Milford
2. Vidot
3. Copley
4. Boyd
5. Hoffman (or Kahu)
6. Barba
7. Hunt

That's a dangerous as **** back line, and it's also got something that we haven't had in a long time, SPEED.

Yeah, I remember. He was criticised for being too quiet and not revving the players up enough. He just lead by the example, he didn't need to be a talker.

The Broncos know how injury prone hodges is yet they gave him a new deal. He's getting older. I bet he only plays 50% of games next year due to injury. Waste of salary cap IMO!

The way that Hodges unsettled Maranta on his early errors last week set Maranta up for a horrible game in terms of confidence in moving forward from the error. It wasn't a captain's performance at all. I was pissed at Maranta too, but I'm not responsible for his encouragement and confidence. It was visible to see the despise and and disrespect that Hodges put on Maranta. A captain looks at the bigger picture for the sake of his team, not his own immediate reactions which are nothing but self serving.

I've always been a fan of Hodgo, but to call him captaincy material is ridiculous. He's never had respect from the refs, cannot keep his emotions under control, plays a somewhat dirty game (which I'll admit is good when he's on our team) and is regularly out with injury.

It's not that I'm blaming him for being a poor captain, I'm blaming those that thought it was a good idea.

I seriously can't imagine Bennett keeping him at C. He knows better.

Yeah. I remember KHunt, someone makes an error, and he runs like 50 metres to pat them on the back. Real leadership is to inspire someone to do better, not guilt them into trying to do it.

I can't say either tick the box as leaders. I think they are both too emotional and lack the ability to be effective leaders. I think McCoullough has the right make-up. It was a significant hit when Hunt walked away as he had all of the makings of what a captain was all about.

He did the same thing last year against the Cowboys.

Cowboys forced another dropout, and Hodges went right off his tree at Hoffman and Maranta. He was going mental.

But then again, Lockyer has done the same thing several times. Stuff gets a little heated on the field sometimes.

Just to be clear, I'm not defending Hodges.

Both Parker and Hodges have some good Leadership qualities but neither are the complete package. I don't think the situation is ideal TBH but the options aren't great. Hodges never came across as a leader to me.

our problem is simple. ..we dont have a huge choice of suitable captains. ..I know forum members dont like Peter wallace but its players like him and alex glenn who suit that level headed role...we tried sam and it was the wrong direction. ..the next best was parker who is one of our best players but is well known to have limited support amoungst the playing group as he can get narky easily so they decided to throw our other senior player and unfortunately most injury prone player hodges into the mix.......ive felt from day one resigning hodgo to more than one year extensions was a terrible decision...he has a terrible list of injuries from hamstrings..knees...Achilles the list goes on...he is a great player but his body is failing him...

Personally, regardless of his game performances, I think Macca could make a good captain. At least of the current crop of players, he's probably the guy I would look at...

Maybe being Captain might get him to double his speed getting the ball out. I am becoming really worried about his slow service now, especially after watching Valdemort's lightning fast service and general play for the Dogs last night.

In fact, I am getting so concerned about Macca's slow service from dummy half I'm going to start agreeing with Alec. Now we can't have that can we

Hey, how about Gillett for captain? Ooops .... Yes, I have no agendas ... :tape:
