Parker and Hodges as captains impressions

Someone will lose their job, Bennett hates co-captains.

It would give us a reason to keep him in the starting line-up and move Thaiday to the bench, which I think is the correct move at the moment, Thaiday has the odd awesome game, but I think he'd be so good off the bench, his impact could turn games.. whereas Glenn wouldn't have that impact off the bench.

(FTR: My starting 8-13 next year)

8. McGuire
10. Hannant
11. Glenn (c)
12. Gillett
13. Parker

14. Thaiday

TBH....I'm looking to eventually phase Glenn out of the side all together.

I almost like this post. I like the line up, but I seriously think people are too quick to judge Parker. Especially with out seeing the way he acts off the field and during training. .
Parker like Tullis (and originally Locky) is not going to be a talking type captain, but rather a follow my example type captain.

I think where there is smoke, there's fire.

If Parker was such a good captain, he would have been made captain from the get go instead of this kum-bye-ya co-captaincy rubbish.

Parker has obviously been the best Bronco for the past couple of years now but I never bought him as a great leader and think he's more of a Gilchrist type player than a fully fledged captain.

I don't think there was an obvious answer and in hindsight he should have been picked over Sammy but I don't think he was ever an ideal choice.

Karmichael was, but that ship has sailed. Even if he comes back, you couldn't hand him the captaincy.

Macca appears to be our best choice ... but I fear handing him the captaincy could backfire on us. As he plays his best footy when his position is under threat. (Like when we were chasing Smith)

Ben Hunt as skipper. Big call but the kid has thrived on being lumped with responsibility.

He plays his best footy when the other captain isn't coming in and stealing his quick play the balls.

I think that's the first time anyone has ever referred to Macca in the same sentence as "quick play the balls"

I actually like the idea of Parker alone as Captain. I hated the choice of Thaiday and wasn't overly impressed with a co captains set up. Locky wasn't a big talker and I don't see Parker as one either but don't think it's an impediment. I'd rather play Parker as lock and have him on field for the duration. Mind you and although off topic ,I'd have Kennedy starting with Hannant and follow with the lighter fleet footed McGuire and another of our forward battalion relieving the two starters at around the 15-25 minute marks.

For me, Parker is a great choice as stand alone Captain.

I'm keen to know which games we've won and lost with and without Hodges.

Service speed from dummy half has nothing to do with how quickly the tackled player plays the ball before the defensive line is set, which is what's being referred to. On a related note, I have noticed a little bit more off-the-ground passing at times from him, so he's improving in that respect

So clearly we have a better winning percentage when Hodges does not play, interesting.

It's a very small sample size. You'd have to go back at least until he got over that big Achilles injury and was playing more than 50% of a season to judge better, but to say he's the reason we lose those games is quite a long bow to draw imo.

I do however think that he can have a negative influence on our sets. It can interrupt our momentum and almost kill that set. Hodgo needs to start realising that he has a bit of a team around him again that can do things and take a back seat. And to stop killing Maranta's confidence 10 minutes into a game.

Yes. And I think Hodges will be gone next year. Left field, I know, but I think Bennett's either going to talk him into retirement, or cut him.

Thanks. I agree with your comments. The Maranta incident against Manly was interesting. Maranta had a cracker against Manly earlier in the season with Copley at centre.

There are outside factors too (salary cap, coach etc).

Giving away possession when trying to milk penalties also doesn't help us win games.

Hodgeo won't find another club, and I doubt he'll be so desperate to continue his career that he'll go to a piss weak club like Cronulla or Canberra. He'll retire in the off season if Bennett pushes him out.

Agreed. I more meant that Bennett will give him a chance to go out gracefully (blame it on the hammy), but if he doesn't go, he'll just get dropped.
