Parker and Hodges as captains impressions

I don't understand why people and the club don't see macca being a captain. He seems to be a natural leader. The other year Thaiday even asked him if he should take the 2 or not. He also seems to have a cool head on his shoulders. Rarely gets penalties. He might not frequently set the world on fire but you virtually never see him make a mistake.

EDIT: for some reason the last two posts weren't there when I read the forum and this post was an entirely unique thought lol.

Think a lot of folks are coming down a little heavy here. We've had a couple of bad weeks, but I think it's misguided to scapegoat them for the losses.

Hodges was perhaps a questionable choice. He wears his heart on his sleeve and that affects his ability to remain cool headed under pressure.

Parker has had a couple of sub par games, but let's be real: he has been great for the majority of the season. He may lack the eloquence of Smith or Locky when it comes to dealing with referees, but he's dauntless in the line if duty. He is a fine figure for a team to rally behind.

Someone mentioned he hasn't had a good game since origin? Approx 165m, 37 tackles and 5 offloads vs Warriors? 163m, 34 tackles, 4 offloads vs Storm? Absolutely sub par....

Agree with the sentiment that Macca and Hunt are both good choices for the future.

I kinda regret us re-signing Hodges for 2 more seasons to be honest.. If we didn't re-sign him we'd probably have enough cash for Boyd next season (To replace him at Right Centre, I don't rate Darius high enough to be Five-Eighth or Fullback), that's a pretty great replacement tbh.

1. Milford
2. Vidot
3. Copley
4. Boyd
5. Hoffman (or Kahu)
6. Barba
7. Hunt

That's a dangerous as **** back line, and it's also got something that we haven't had in a long time, SPEED.
Not sure if serious.

Hodges is one of the main reasons we have been competative the last 4 years, without him we would be in a world of hurt.

Would be interesting to see Boydy at 5/8.

no it wouldn't ... Boyd is NOT A 5/8!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bennett trialed him there this season but moved him out of there quickly

Hodges will be injured for a good portion of the next 2 seasons, if the past has shown us anything. He has BEEN a great player for us, but with the condition of his body, I just think it was just a poor decision to extend his contract until 2016.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's not picked for origin next year, especially given the good performance of Chambers in Origin 3, and the progression of Copley & Gagai.

It may depend on how Tate returns from yet another injury.

Never said he was a 5/8, but it would be interesting. So is he a winger or a fullback?

So if Hodges was fit now you would drop him for someone else?

Steve Renouf, Boyd is a winger. especially if he comes to us.

Bit premature putting Macca forward to be captain. I still dont see him as secure in the team, time will tell

It seems peoples opinions of Parker are starting to wane.

There is a thread running on the Broncos unofficial facebook with all these fans complaining that Parker arrogantly snubbed them. Considering his attitude in press conferences recently, I'm willing to believe them.

Re: Anthony Milford @ 6

Parker no good ??

Everyone on here spent years calling for Parker to be made Captain over Thaiday, now after you months they want to dump him.

I'll tell you that BHQ posters are a fickle lot.

FTR, Locky wasn't a great captain to start with either, in fact it has been reported that the 2006 origin series was the making of Locky as a captain, over year after he was made Broncos captain.

I can't really think of anyone in our current line-up that is a stand out for captain.. maybe Alex Glenn? He seems really level headed and well spoken, rarely gives away silly penalties or makes errors.

Re: Anthony Milford @ 6

Historically we have always had our "best player" take on the captaincy. Wally, Alf, (Kevvie...well?) Lockyer .....

Whilst Parker almost fits that role, he's not quite what the others were. You wouldn't call Parker a student of the game.....doesn't strike me as being overly football smart.

Then again....I don't know who else in the team would be better in that regard either.

Hunt seems to be more about instinct than intelligence.....

There's nobody at the moment IMO who is screaming out as a leader of men.....

Glenn was spoken about along with Parker when they gave the job to Thaiday.......I thought back then that Alex would have been the better choice. Now I'm not so sure.....

It would give us a reason to keep him in the starting line-up and move Thaiday to the bench, which I think is the correct move at the moment, Thaiday has the odd awesome game, but I think he'd be so good off the bench, his impact could turn games.. whereas Glenn wouldn't have that impact off the bench.

(FTR: My starting 8-13 next year)

8. McGuire
10. Hannant
11. Glenn (c)
12. Gillett
13. Parker

14. Thaiday
