I heard something this morning from Freddy on 9 saying he contacted Payne to check on him and has no issues with picking him for NSW after their conversation.

I reckon it’s all the manager, if you’ve met Payne you’ll know his quite young and dumb. He is being mislead. Payne needs to fire the manager to be apart of this broncos team if not than he has to go.

"I know from Payne's point of view and Brisbane's; I'm sure they want to clear this up and get on with it as they're having a fantastic season and this could hijack it.

How? Surely he sees the media explosion over this and 95% is against him and his management. It's essentially character assassination. How can he be in a good mindset!?
Unless he has another contract lined up. He's good friends with TPJ isn't he? Is Gus really going to pay $1m for Haas considering everything he has has said in the past about not paying overs for forwards?

If he's being lead around by his manager, they would've said something like, expect there to be blowback but keep your head high, you're doing this for the right reasons and only we know the truth etc etc.
Easy to employ siege mentality.

Maybe but you can't be oblivious to the noise, even from team mates/inside the club. It does smack of new management wanting to get a big fat commission so maybe we shouldn't be surprised if he goes to another club on roughly the same numbers.

We have our juniors go through education programs to assist them in their professional football careers/journeys and other issues they may encounter. I think a new module should be awareness of player managers and that they do not always have your best interest in mind.
I think back to the amount of players that say "i am letting my manager do that, I will just play footy". The blind trust they put into people who make a living from them is beyond me. Particularly the amount of money they are trusting them with.
Players really need to be aware they have to be careful who they rely on for advice

Surely they don't have $1M/year for a prop? With the guys they've got this year plus Kiks and Mahoney next year too?
There was noise around Burton wanting out when Barrett got shafted, we would be dumb not to make enquiries there.

I doubt he is getting good advice either legally or from his agent. Until there is a resolution one way or the other with the court case with Orr, even if he signs a new contract, he is at risk of paying double commission if he does not win that other case. If he does win the other case it is likely that will put money back into his pocket from the commissions that he has paid.
This is another agent who is trying to line his own pockets and not doing the right thing by his client.
