NEWS Payne Haas retracts immediate release from Broncos then

On the dogs forum.

Anyone know someone in the know, to report this

Hi everyone,
I've heard alot of information re our negotiations with Haas. I can't garauntee that he is coming, but we are certainly an option.
There have been three meetings with Payne Haas' management.

1. The first was last year after he got new management - this took place on a quiet day at BSG.
2. The second was when the Broncos were in Sydney in Round 2 - which also involved our major sponsor ShoeGrab who he was with. Haas and his manager were there.
3. The most recent meeting I know of was during magic round. Gus and Tyran Smith met for dinner. This was at Halo Ground resturant from what I've heard. Haas was not there.
I can't be certain that he's coming to Belmore as there is about to be a crazy bidding war, but don't rule us out as a geniune option.

It's doubtful.

Gus won't pay him what he's asking.

burton the only one it consider pretty happy with who we have atm **** haas off and use some of the money getting off contract players sorted and ones that need upgrades, then after all that is done see where we are at.

every year they look more and more alike

The best thing about the club not signing Haas on a million is that he would become the new reference point for other players in our team.

How do you tell Patty at the end of his contract that he’s only worth $650k, or when you upgrade Hetherington that he’s only worth 400 or whatever. How do you tell Cobbo or Mam that they are worth $500 or 400 thousand dollars. Is Patty worth half to the club of what Payne Haas is?

We’ve set a price point for Haas at $900k, which other players will notice and price themselves accordingly.

Kevvie on Payne:
"His management has asked for a release. They put an offer to us for Payne to stay, and we rejected that offer," Walters told Brisbane's Nova radio.

"We understand Payne has been a great player for us, and we want to look after him financially, but we just couldn't come to an agreement.

"Contracts are about negotiation, and we're happy to negotiate."

"They sent an email back to (football manager) Ben Ikin saying that if this isn't the case, then Payne wants an immediate release, which shocked us really," Walters explained.

"We're trying to work through with his management on keeping Payne at Red Hill.

"That's the outcome we both want. I'm sure we can come to an agreement."
"We stood by him in good times and bad. It's a two-way street. He's always been a Bronco and we want him to remain,"
"The players treat rugby league as a business, they understand that at different times players are going to move on.

"That's the world they live in."

The smartest thing Payne could do right now - if he ever wanted to stay at the Broncos - is to sack his manager on the grounds that he went behind his back or something, take the Broncos offer and not pay his agent a cent.

But by now that would've already happened.

Interesting. So either the Broncos are calling his bluff and he/his new club will have to compensate the Broncos in some way, or they think Payne is just throwing a tantrum and they legitimately think they can work through this.

Hard to call other than of all the people in the entire universe the last person I would believe on any transfer rumour is Kevin Walters. He always says this shit.

Surely they don't have $1M/year for a prop? With the guys they've got this year plus Kiks and Mahoney next year too?

There was noise around Burton wanting out when Barrett got shafted, we would be dumb not to make enquiries there.
The contract demands are just a smokescreen. He just wants to get the **** away from the Broncos. He can join his mate TPJ at the Dogs this year on a pay scale that is relevant for half a season.

Next year, he can join an even better mate in Bennett at the Dolphins and recieve an income closer to what he is seeking (which again has been inflated knowing the Broncos couldn't afford it).

He hasn’t been happy since Bennett left and if I were Bronco mgmt, I'd let him walk today. No use keeping him around the place.

That's my theory anyways.

Does anyone want them to come to an agreement to keep him here? I'd rather he left.
Haas is a player worth keeping.
The more I look at the exorbitant offer they made him the less I want him to accept it. I can't believe we'd spend that kind of coin on a bloke who has only scored 2 tries in the last three seasons. If I'm spending that money, he needs to be setting up tries or scoring them, not just banging the ball up.

He only recorded 1 line break in all of 2020. He had more than that in his injury interrupted rookie season. There is a ball player somewhere in there which will probably be on full display if ever re-joins Bennett.

Despite the hard stance being reported in the media as far as the Broncos are concerned. His Bronco days are severely numbered. There is no going back from this.

I doubt he is getting good advice either legally or from his agent. Until there is a resolution one way or the other with the court case with Orr, even if he signs a new contract, he is at risk of paying double commission if he does not win that other case. If he does win the other case it is likely that will put money back into his pocket from the commissions that he has paid.

This is another agent who is trying to line his own pockets and not doing the right thing by his client.
The timing is so weird as well. One day before a game and then into the bye round. Then straight into game 1 of origin…

Why blow this up now and not next week, when Brisbane have no game to worry about?

To get it out before origin?
